Wow that is stunning, but would have liked to see how much damage the sapphire had recieved from the beating!

The last lick with the hammer must of got it! You can beat the crap out of a sapphire with dead flat hits like that but if you drop it on a tile floor or hit the edge of it POW! It's busted, trust me, I've managed to shatter or crack 2 different sapphire crystals accidentally! One fell on the ceramic tile floor of my kitchen and shattered an the other one I barley nicked the corner of my granite bathroom sink and it cracked across the middle of the crystal! The first watch that I dropped was a deep blue T100 w/sapphire (busted) and the other was my GEN Omega PO, it cost me $700+ to have that one replaced by Nesbitts in Seattle!

In reality guys mineral is stronger than sapphire.
Sapphire is harder which means it's more resistant to scratching but more likely to shatter. Try hitting a diamond with a hammer, it will go to dust.

I thought sapphire was more scratch resistant than mineral glass but less stronger, and shattered.

Edit: I was posting while you posted Col, thanks for validating this for me.

I once drop my mineral crystal watch on the ceramic tile floor and it crack, cant feel the cracks from the outside and doesnt seems to be shattering anytime soon. I worn it for quite some time before gotten it changed.
As for sapphire, no experience on spoiling one, and i hope i wont get that experience :)
