Thinking of purchasing a panerai with a UNITAS-6497-2 movement. What is the power reserve on these and how reliable are they?

6497s are solid and really robust and should last for quite a long time. My 111 is a year old and still going strong without any servicing.

Unitas 6497 (and Asian6497 too) is one of most reliable movements...PR is good... About 48-50 hours...
Cheers

No worries about reliability of this movement, maybe one of the most (if not the most) reliable of rep movements

PR usually between 40-50 hrs

Are the parts directly compatible with the swiss unit?
Just thinking about future services.

Not all parts are 1:1 to the ETA Swiss parts. For example, the Swiss gears don't work very well with the Chinese jewels

I have 4 6497-2-based PAM reps.

All are very reliable, accurate and get 54 to 58.5 hours power reserve (I've tested them each 3 times).

I have 4-5 rep watches that use them, and I have never had a problem. Its my favorite movement in a rep.

I know its not a guarantee that all chinese movements will be exactly the same, but for the ones Ive worked with, I have not had any problems(with one exception). All gears from escape to third wheel have always fit properly with the asian jewels. The only exception has been the center wheel, that needs a swiss jewel in the main plate. The jewel in the bridge is fine.

I totally agree with opinion from mates, I had 2 pam's 6497-2 and it's definitely the best handwinding rep movement

Thanks for the info.
So not really worth changing out to a swiss movement until the asian one dies properly.

You mean reps with asian clone movement based (functionally) on the ETA/Unitas 6497-1, as the 6497-2 doesn't have any 1:1 clone functionally speaking. A swiss ETA 6497-2 with branded Panerai bridges and the Swan neck/Incablock shock protection/glycodur balance wheel/Nivarox balance spring, and Top grade decoration like perlage etc, is actually the famous Officine Panerai Calibre OP XI. Good luck trying to find a genuine swiss ETA 6497-2, these are bound by a contract to be branded by Swiss watch companies, such one is Panerai, and I don't know another one using these movements.

Seen loads of swiss 6497 on the bay unbranded with just swiss made . I have just had mine serviced for 45 pound and like my watch maker said its good for five yrs bring it back in another 5 ..6 yrs and that means 2 services in 11 to 12 yrs .
so why buy a new movement .
my watch maker wont touch sa31xx but sh3135 he will as he can get parts .
took me 3 yrs to find this guy and he said with oil they can out live us .
the last guy wanted 100 to do clean oil 6497 .
so necroin this service rather than buyin a movement every 2 yrs .look how much money you save from a clean an oil.
my sa3135 had 1 service and great movement .
the sa is more reliable than some sh3135 lm hearin now lol
