How much would YOU spend on a Pam rep?

I'm just wondering how much is too much for a Pam lover? Sometimes I see watches for sale in the sales forum and wonder if they'll go because of the price tag. I know some of us are into modding, and that's great. But when would you turn down buying something because the bells and whistles got to be TOO much.
The most expensive Pams I've seen are 7-800, which if it's had custom work I can understand. Someone's time isn't, and shouldn't be free. Pams also don't have anything on some rolex frankens.
Do you guys prefer modded, or out of the box watches? Just wondering the pros and cons.

If it´s well done and assembled and has a nicely decorated Hamilton or Cortebert movement - and it´s something You really wanted - those 7-800 are perfectly ok.

I don't think I'd spend more than $1500 on rep, regardless of brand, parts, etc. I have a couple that I have near $1K into and a Rolerai build I am currently working on will hit about $1200. I think a solid 10% of gen price, for the right build, is about right. That's just me...

It falls back on how much/good you want your reps to be. If you are satisfied with an ootb super rep, $300-400 will be more than enough. If you love custom jobs, prepare to pay around north of $650 or get one in m2m (but they usually hold good value). Frankens i'd expect $1-1.2k and above. In summary, the more OCD you have, the more you have to pay :p

This is an interesting place, RWI. In the car groups I run with, the direction you're heading is called bench racing.

The question implies: Is it about bragging rights or personal pleasure and what's your threshold? I would ask, if one didn't have someone who appreciates this hobby to share with, would it be rewarding to spend $1500 on a fake watch or even $5K, $10K or $50K on a gen?

there can never be enough money to shell out to cushion one's ego or the lack thereof.
personally, for complete reps (non franken and no gen parts involved), I won't pay more that 500usd.
its just pointless.

unless it's an AP.

As a rule of thumb, I set the bar even lower around 350 with some exceptions up to 500 usd.
Then there's that special piece that sings to you, and the price becomes less important :)

For a rep, anything above $300 might seem expensive, until you realize crap quartz fashion watches like Guess , Michael Kors, or DW are in similar range.

Like Chris, I'm pretty much in AP's lately but I wouldn't pay more than $400 for a PAM and that's only for specific models like Bronzo, 187 or some of the black_shark builds (one day). Otherwise $200-300 is my limit depending on model. :)

There are reps and then there are builds. A 201a goes for 30-40K, if we apply the 10% rule in this case it turns into a pricey project, when in reality one can be built, with top notch parts and a lot of patience, for around 1K. On the other hand, OTB super reps can be had for less than $400.

Hard question mate. The differences and details between a modded pam and an unmodded one are evident, if the job is well done.
Other league are frankens. Only the dial of the most common models can cost from $300 to about $600, to exceed $1000 for particular models, such as 127 or 372.
Having said that, without considering the frankens, for an excellent modded Pam I was spending $500-$600. Then I decided to mod them by myself... :p

995 from a dealer NOONE EVER mentions built one for me, took them 2 months to produce and it's near perfection. Over a year an a half has gone by and still running within. COSC

500$ would be my threshold given that PAMs are relatively simple watches/movements.

From a TD, I'd have a $500 max. However I recently bought a Bronzo in a MTM deal for $700. It had been serviced, waterproofed, had the mainspring replaced with a swiss one and came with a gorgeous Assoulemente Strap with OEM Tang Buckle

$300 is my limit. Plus EMS shipping

This is an interesting question. But I am clearly not the correct person to ask...

I say, there is no comparison to built versus bought and you can't equate the two. But If I were to buy an out of the box rep, it would be under $400

I,ve spent $675 on a Dochere modded Pam with no regrets as its a great watch, also spend a load on a 3717 turning it into a full Genstein does that count as its now 100% IWC ?

i do enjoy getting a watch, researching the mods that can be done and getting satisfaction in watching them evolve, has to be a keeper mind you to justify all the time and effort.
