Hope this is the right place to post this. Please move it to the appropriate section if necessary.
So, I got sick of looking at the crappy AR on my Avenger this week. When the light hit it I could see the blue-ish coating had a sort of eggshell effect to it. I thought I would do sometihng about it so I removed the movement etc and gave it a shot. I was really plleased with the results.
I'm no expert when it comes to this kind of stuff, but I'm allways willing to give things a go. I know more about car detailing than I do about modding watches and I have some polishing compounds in my garage that I thought might do the trick. Along with a Dremel I've had for years I got to work.
The polishing componund I got from a car detailing website. The attachment for the Dremel I found in a drawer and I have no ide what it's called or what the part number is. It's a little polishing attachment I think. It's quite hard, not soft and spongy.
I just spread a little of the polishing paste around the top of the crystal and used the dremel to work it in, then polished with a microfribre cloth. After a few minutes the AR was removed form the centre but I was struggling to get to the edge of the AR. I used a Stanley knife to trim the polishing head to a bit of a point and that allowed me to get right up to the edge of the AR. Another few minutes of polishing and it was done.
Obviously I had to repeat the process to the inside of the crystal but that was simple enough. Again I sharpened the attachement a little to get right to the edge of the crystal.
Unfortunately I forgot to take pictures of what the crystal looked like before, but you can hopefully see that the end result was a crystal clear AR
Hope this maybe helps someone else
