How badly did I get scammed on this 1570 movement?

I just bought the movement listed here last night: https://www.ebay.com/itm/395586635713
I was talking to a rep dealer and sent him the link and he said the movement was no good that the jewels or something were broken. Can anyone tell me how screwed I am here? And what is obviously broken based off the pictures?

(realize I should have posted here before I purchased!) 😖

If you need a movement again, perhaps consider buying a complete watch instead to take the parts from. An example here

Not an endorsement and sell off parts not needed

Oh wow, I looked into some other models with the 1570 but what I found were all $4-5k. I obviously did not search the proper models this is an attractive deal

Yeah i think you should have passed on it. It’s ok though. We live and learn.

I appreciate the feedback albeit quite obvious at this point, if it’s any consolation I had no real intention of actually buying it I just did the “make and offer” option for what I thought was a pretty good deal on the movement and to my surprise the seller took the offer but now we know why. Kind of a if it seems too good to be true it probably isn’t kind of situation. So anyway I paid $1600 not $2200.

but according to eBay I should get my money back next week. And just to reiterate, the seller did cancel the order after i contacted them so they made it right.

Ok makes sense actually. I wouldn’t beat myself up too much over it. A learning lesson there mate.

I’m still curious as to what is broken on the movement based on the picture. I tried to compare the pictures on the listing to pictures of obviously better and allegedly functioning 1570’s and nothing stood out to my untrained eye

I didn’t notice any obvious cracked jewels, the pics aren’t that good, but the movement looks pretty rough and dirty and certainly not ready for use in a build - It would require a complete overhaul. Not sure about their claims of “working” movement when it doesn’t have a stem to check functions, I guess they mean the balance wheel moves.

I think that the seller probably doesn’t know enough about the movement to make an accurate assessment about it’s functionality. Again, fortunately the seller wasn’t a scammer and started the cancellation process after my card was automatically charged once i contacted them.

Most people "know" the worth of what they have nowadays. It takes 5 seconds to google "1570 price". So there's almost ALWAYS a reason why something is discounted heavily - a scam, broken, etc.
