Hey guys.. how are the TimeWalker Chronograph reps? Looking into getting a silver w/ SS soon and wanted to know how the reps are, what to look out for, and how much I should be paying. Thanks.

I think these are one of the true 1:1 reps out there.

Best bet is to check with all the trusted dealers here, and figure who has the best after sales support...Price is not always everything

Any suggestions?

What are the flaws, if any, that I should look out for?

Thanks.

i have a silver faced ss bracelet.

i was at at an AD while wearing it (don't worry, just looking through the window) and noticed a couple thing on the silver one specifically.

- the "MONTBLANC" text is black on the rep, and is grey on the gen.
- obviously, the date wheel on the rep is sunken

other than those two items, the watch is pretty spot on.

If it's something you are planning on wearing a lot, you may want to look into having it serviced before you wear it. It'll last as long as the real thing if you do, and you'll have at least 3-5 years before you have to service it again.

edit: This is going to be my next purchase. But because I plan on making it a daily beater along with my 45mm UPO, I do plan on having it serviced first. Even though that brings the price closer to $500 after you've had it done, it's still a hell of a deal for a 1:1 rep that you can wear for years to come.

I am a little new to this so forgive me for the basic questions. What exactly does servicing entail and why would you have that done if it is brand new? Can you bring it to any local jeweler/watch store to have it done? What's the ballpark cost of that? I've never had any of my (gen) watches serviced before so I never really knew it was something you had to do..

basically like servicing a car: you lubricate the gears so there's minimal friction when they are in contact with each other. I doubt you'll have luck finding a renowned watch smith servicing your rep. Best is to find those mum and pop shops which are rather small. Cost depends on where you are. Best of luck.

Cheers

The Montblanc TW is basically 1:1, except for the sunken date window... Good luck!

What about the non chrono versions. Are they equally as good. I'm assuming if it has other than the A7750, you won't have the sunken date issue? Would that be a correct assumption?

I have also owned the silver dial SS strap one.

Excellent rep, but in my opinion, the strap isnt finished quite as nicely as the gen.

Its a bit loose and rattly and the edges are sharper than the gen.

I tried the gen on not long ago. Other than the flaws mentioned above, its a great watch.

I have sold my SS and now getting a leather strap version instead.

How noticeable is the sunken date wheel in your opinion? Is it something you can live with?

cant be that bad if I have bought another one :p

in reality, side by side, its blatent.. also as its a silver dial with white date wheel, its quite obvious so if you know your watches, its a big tell.

having said that.. I doubt most people will notice.

90% of my reps are chronos so suffer from this issue. I have come to terms with it so doesnt bother me.

I agree, I would say more like 99% of the time most of the people wont notice. Unless you are in an AD or among a group of enthusiasts like ourselves, I doubt that anyone even pays attention to what watch others are wearing at all.

And how often to we actually get close enough to someone to tell what they are wearing or where they can tell what we are wearing.

not only that.. I have been wearing reps for years.. even before joining the forum, and I only found out sunken dates were an issue when I became more active on the forum lol.

I doubt even most rep wearers know its an issue

Agreed.

I had a rep Rolex Daytona that I bought in a backroon of an electronics store in Hong Kong back in the early 90's for $50. Still have it today and it still runs.

Comparing the quality to the current batch of reps I have now, I see how bad I was taken, even at $50. Considering inflation, that was likely $150 in today's dollars.

It's paper thin and light as a feather, has a quartz movement, chrono pushers don't work obviously, LOL.

... and i bought his silver dial SS timewalker. it's really great. amit's right about the strap, but it's not a big deal really.

the sunken datewheel does kinda suck, but only when you're holding it up to the window comparing it to the gen outside an AD. other than that, it's more than fine.

i wear the watch a lot, and would actually love to see it with an A7753 movement because it'd be close to perfect then.

Speaking of the A7753, what's the deal with that movement. It seems like a few watches are being released with that movement, but they are all starting out upwards of $800.
