How about building a 42mm radiomir?

Your passion about panerai and the enormous amount of information here, wake up a post nuclear
feeling inside me.

I'm thinking of building an everyday watch based on a lugged 42mm radiomir like pam005XX.
I like its case, it's thin enough for my everyday needs and seems like a good option
for a "plain", robust watch.

I was thinking to start with a (used?) ss cage with any movement will work acceptable
since i 'm planning to use a solid back and most will be brushed.

I also like to have a worn bluish dial, probably with light green lume so i think
that i have to source one through modders.

I like both plexi and crystal but i think that i will use a nice plexi for that.

Should i have to search for it used? should i have to buy one and mod it?
I need you to guide me with anything comes in your mind about.

Thanx!

I am going to post here mostly because I am already in the process of doing the same except I will be building one with a 45mm case. I am most definitely not the most qualified one to answer but I will post what know so far.

I do think that if you are thinking about this type of thing you probably want what you want so unless you are willing to be flexible m2m is not going to get it done. There are sources out there that have many of the parts you are looking for and there are modders, dial makers etc that will help you if you want/need. part suppliers that come to mind are river, getat etc. You will find some of those here as a TDs, some on the homage board probably more too.

I am working on making my own Dial and have not bought all the parts yet for everything else. I might be going about it the wrong way, but that is what I am doing. because I am going about it this way I would be interested in others experience with various parts suppliers, Dial makers etc too.

Let's see what we will found!

Till now, the only reasonable start for me is to get a new one with .999 movement instead of .1000
from a TD at ~228$.
I was worried about keeping the spirit of gens but at the end a 42mm does a lot of difference from a 44-45mm
in every day life for me. (jackets, softshells etc).

I even thought canceling small seconds and replace them with the smiling 9 but i think that if it's work ok
i will keep it, probably with a modded small hand :)
(or a small propeller in "fallout" style..)

I wonder why i haven't heard anything here for a "vault-tec industries" modding. Fits good with the gen style radiomirs.

greetings!

I need some help here :)

Does anyone have a suggestion only about the case i need?
42mm, lugged, hand-winding height

I don't mind if it has movement, crown, crystal, strap, just the case.
i also don't mind about the colour, or been polished, used, scratched etc.

If there is a simple machining (or not) way to convert a case from automatic movement to hand winding height
please enlighten me about. I can do some welding fill on a luminor if i can use its case.

thanx!

I think you should post your questions in the modders & repairs forum here on rwi. I think you will get more of the right eyeballs

I think you are right. I 'm not used in such a big forum. Even the advrider was easier for me
