I've been flirting with the idea of taking some "getting started" classes through the Horological Society of New York; they have a four hour, three unit "Horology 101-103" package that happens on odd Saturdays at the ungodly hour of 9:30 a.m., and runs about $600 and change. Does anyone have any experience with this, starting with "is it worth the time or money?" Any feedback, constructive or humorous, would be appreciated. P.S. - I'm new in these parts, so apologies if I posted this in the wrong forum.

Any personal instruction you can get will likely save you months or years of trial and error. Do it.

This is so true.

I did the opposite which involved a lot of time, reading, and breaking lots of parts. But the process led me to develop a lot of unorthodox techniques and creative workarounds.
