I've read it here before:

"Why would someone, anyone buy a Panerai and whats this 'PAM' thing?"

I was the same. Big ugly watches, I thought. Or at least nothing special. Then a buddy of mine (who was wearing a gen tag like me) suddenly decided to take a hit at his savings account a got a gen PAM. I thought he had lost it (this is 3 months ago).

One month ago was having some drinks with another buddy of mine who weares a gen rolex (I wear the rep ;-) told me he was now considering to add (a gen) PAM to his collection.

I started to become a bit uneasy. Did I miss something here? Me? Who is usually a 'first mover'. What am I not seeing? So I ordered a rep luminor marina (couldnt even tel you the model #) from WE and it arrived 4 days ago. I ordered it so I could see for myself what all the fuzz is al about. And...

OH MY GOD!!!

It is already my favorite! I have close to 20 watches (gen and rep) but this one is soo nice. It is simply stunning. Even worse. This morning found myself looking at my Rolex GMTIIc and the thought crossed my mind: "what a small watch is that and such a busy dial". I mean, I am still schocked by that thought.

Anyway. So now I am into PAMs (my wife hates my hobby btw, but also loved the PAM I got from WE) yet the confusion continues. What model to get? I've read a lot of threads, read about 111, read about differences between H and N factories. Found a list with all models ever made and sure am able to tell what I like and what I dont like. But even then the options are endless. So without buying them all, I was wondering if you guys have any thoughts on how to best approach this? Is there a top 10 or so to begin with? Is there such a thing as a must have? Are there clear dont's? All help appreciated :)

I can absolutely positively recommend the 111 from Noob factory with the new clear AR coating. It's stunning. I've had mine on my wrist almost non stop since I bought it.

For me top 5

I was exactly the same way about 3 or 4 years ago. Didn't get it at all. Then I bought a 111 from Ruby and I was hooked!

Given that a new 127 (Fiddy) is due out soon, I suggest you wait a few weeks and go for that. A Fiddy was my second Panerai and somewhat sealed my fate. I now have about 15 ;)

With all these suggestions comes the next dilemma: sausage or sandwich!
I would go for a 005!

Yes - 15 is easy. But if he posted a pic of his collection, Pam-idiots like me would only see multiple examples of only 3 or 4 watches, and even amongst those 3 or 4 models there would not be much difference.

I have 2 Pams and I like them a lot. But you're either hooked or you're not.

Enjoy your new-found addiction!

PAM111M

Ok, put in another 3 hours of searching, reading and contemplating and did indeed decide to go fo3 the Noob 111M. Apparently indeed one of the best rep versions currently available. Now gonna look for the 'best' TD for this one. I noticed prices between TDs vary between $190 and $260 for this model...
