After some expert info if anyone can help. Ive recently picked up a beautiful tag heuer in a trade and thought I had myself a great deal. The movement was not working but its quartz so I though it would be an easy swap out.

Now Ive taken it apart Ive found it uses an early 963 116 quartz movement which I cant seem to find a modern equivalent of. I think the eta 955 112 or 114 may fit but Im not to clued up on these movements.

The watch is the 38mm Tag Heuer 1000 PVD model 980 031L which has always been a huge favorite of mine but I fear it may be nothing other than a paperweight. Can anyone help???

Heres a link to some info on the watch:

You are right. The ETA/ESA quartz movement is used for the Tag Heuer 1000 series. Not to be mistaken with the Heuer 1000. The early versions of the Tag Heuer use the 114 and the later versions use the 112. They are identicql, but one was made in Switserland and one wasn't. At least, thats the story on the boards. If you have an original Night Diver, I'd be careful with it and let a professional do the work for you, but thats just my opinion. One more thing: if you swap the quartz movement, keep the bridge with the Tag Heuer Date stamp. That way it keeps its value.

I own the oversized 980.021 and swapped the 114 movement with a NOS 112, keeping the bridge. The NOS movement was only $20 on Ebay. I posted the project in the Vintage section.

beautiful piece. my guess would be the 955 112.
i have a 4000 with that movement in a 38mm case.
measurements seem right but you could try contacting tag and see if theyll tell you without making you send it in.

how the hell did someone kill a ETA quartz movement?
mines damn near 20 years old and its the most accurate watch i have.

Thanks for the help guys. Took it to my local watch smith and I can safely say it is working flawlessly! Its off to have the crystal and insert replaced so Im eagerly awaiting the phone call to collect.
Ill get some pics up of the before and after when I get it back.
