Hi Everyone-

My beloved, daily wear 111M movement stopped today. It is fully wound but it is no longer keeping time. :frusty:

Does the movement need replacing? Is there something I can do to get it moving again? If it does need to be replaced, is there a tutorial anywhere on the forum, and who could source a new 6497 movement for me?

Thank you for your assistance gang!

The 6497 is a very simple movement. Every watchsmith can do a service at this movement. Did you know a rep friendly watchsmith?

Sometimes it could be a 3-minute fix with some ratchet stuck or just having to let the mainspring down (local watchsmith to take a look).
Movement replacement maybe try Jacksontse (in the TD list).

Thank you for the reply, Chris. I'm afraid I don't know a rep friendly watchsmith. I vaguely remember forum talk about how it may be more cost effective to replace the movement rather than have it serviced. Is this true?

I have seen some 6497 movements here at the member2member sale section for around 50$. It's maybe cheaper than a service but a fresh serviced movement runs better and longer.

That makes sense, Chris. I'll check into the details with Jackson. In the meantime, if anyone knows of a posted tutorial, I would still be interested in seeing it.

Thanks guys!

Same thing happened to mine (although mine was dropped & banged). If youre in Los Angeles area I found a guy who was half the price of all other quotes and mine was ready in just over a week for $100

Thanks, Time...

I'm in Pennsylvania. Unless someone can advise of a watch smith in PA soon, I'd consider shipping to CA to have your guy look at it. Would you be willing to share his information with me?

This guy doesnt speak the best english so I am thinking he is probably a better source for local in-person visits. Long story short, I would check Yelp reviews in your area, focusing on places with high reviews but dont look overtly fancy.

No one I know really wears watches, so I had to start from ground zero. I first called around if anyone was willing to work on rep watches. I got no were with that. I then took it in to some fancy watch places and was quoted $300 from one place and $200 from another place. Considering I paid like $350 for mine, $100 was my price point otherwise I would just end up getting a new watch. A month or so went by and then I made another effort walking in to another couple places on my daily drive to/from work. One guy wanted $175 (and would not budge) and another really old guy wanted $200 but told me "it might be more this looks like a nice watch". I wasnt so confident with that. He probably just changes batteries these days. I ended up posting here on the forum for help and someone mentioned I should also check Yelp reviews. I narrowed my search down to about 5 places. I was in downtown LA one night and noticed a guy with an Omega and struck up a conversation and asked him if he ever had it serviced. He told me about a little place he recommends to everyone just east of LA a few miles and sure enough it was one of my 5 picks. I went there the next day, price was right and he fixed my watch. As mentioned before, not the best english and not a big conversationalist (based on his yelp reviews) but this PAM111 really got him talking.

Good luck!
