I like nothing larger than 44, I like the sandwich dial. I really like the 183, but what seems to be cool on the Pams is the crown guard lever and of course the 183 does not have it. This is tough.

Pam 183 Black Seal and the classic 111H. You'll end up with them both. Both great watches. Doesn't matter which is first. I went 111H first . You will happy with the 183. Crown guards are cool, but so is that 183 crown!!

Id suggest a 111 for a 177. If you like the PVD look check out the 090.

I also recommend 111 (or 177). I own both 183 and 111, and after I saw 183 at an AD, I was quite disappointed with the case (Dial was near perfect... IMO). 111 looks a lot closer to gen due to the overall look of it - although it has a couple of flaws on the dial (font color and "L SWISS MADE L" being to close to the "6").

If you're into base, 112 is a great choice too. On the gen, "L SWISS MADE L" is also a lot closer to "6" than it is on gen 111. If you're into a bit more vintage look, G series pam dials (painted numbers with "L SWISS L") are nice as well & more accurate in my opinion.

Most standard reps (especially sandwich dial models) come with 2 problems that can be modded - recessed cannon pin and weak lume (well... also thin crown too...) but I am sure you already knew these.

Ruby's 036 comes with thick TI crown with no recessed pin problem... so it's a bit less work if you want a more accurate looking Pam (it has its problems with the dial too though...)

I think the new 176 from DVN is what very good from front to back. For the first one, the base model would be very good since I think it goes well in all atmosphere from vacation to business dress watch. DVN also has the fat dragger on the movement too.

111 for sure. I own several PAM's and my 111 still gets the most compliments. What makes it great is the simple design and the fact that it looks great with just about any strap combination. Start with an inexpensive asian movement like the one Silix has for around $100. Nobody but the members of this board would ever call you out on it. I personally like my Fiddy the best but not everyone can pull off a 47mm watch.

Pam 253 is nice if you want a sporty sophisticated look, the 212 is pretty similar, but more simple and looks great too.

True the Radiomir cased watches are 45mm but are *much* thinner and lacking the big CG so they wear smaller than the 44mm PAMs.

I say go with the 183. What is cool about the PAMs is the clean, no-nonsense dials and the "tool watch" heritage (try to ignore the Nazi Germany part of the heritage). Being that some of the first dive watches given to the Italian Navy were the "cushion case" style of the current Radiomir line, I feel they are some of the most true-to-their-roots models available.
