Help me pick a "daily beater"...111 vs 318

Trying to slowly get back in the rep game. I sorely miss my PAMs (most recently my H-Fac 177L that I still kick myself for selling) so I'm thinking of adding one to the box. It'll be a daily wearer, and as such I've already ruled out all of the super-reps....I just can't bring myself to daily something that nice. I've narrowed it down to 2 over at Toro's...the 111 Beginner Upgrade version, and the 318 Beginner version.

I really like the 318 more overall, from the dial to the caseback to the CG...what's stopping me is the lowbeat movement. My 177L came with a lowbeat and subsequently died...I eventually yanked it for a platinum highbeat but I don't want to have to do that again, and I need something reliable for a daily. The 111 comes with a highbeat and all of the "key" features of the super-reps at a price that's super-reasonable...but it's also about $20 more expensive.

What would you guys do? Pay more for the nicer movement and give up the details you love? Or stick to your favorite and roll the dice with the movement?

Always +20$ for the PAM 111
And better save money and go to the V3 or other no beginner versión.

Thanks for the input guys. I do think the movement is worth it, even though I am getting kinda sick of sandwich dials :p

Ale, as I said, I can't bring myself to daily wear something that nice! Especially at my job where im constantly koving my arms/hands around. I dont even wear my UPO there, let alone a super pam!

What's up BMW! Good to see you still around :D

I'm not a long timer here or anything, but I'd spend the extra money for the v3 111. It's already cheap, can't imagine going cheaper.

You guys talking about the 111N v3? Im not above spending on that, but like I said its going to take a beating. Scuffs, dents, and hits are a daily occurrence. Its not that im careless, but that I cant afford to be anal about how careful I am with my watch at all times...hence the "daily beater" in the title. In this case the "beater" is quite literal, so I want something respectable but cheap anough that if it takes a hard hit or gets a nasty scratch it won't ruin my day...or won't cost a ton to replace if it comes to it.

Normally I'd wear something along the lines of a 21j Sub or PO, but like I said I need to scratch , my PAM itch and after owning a nice one I just cant wear an $80 cheapie even though a cheapie is exactly what I should be looking at....I figure the beginner models are a nice middle ground.

If you're expecting to have scratches or what not on the PAM, a PAM111 or PAM318 will not cut it for you. The polished case and bezel are just asking for some scratches. If you want to have a PAM good for a daily beating and since you are considering subs, might I suggest the PAM243 submersible. Same size as the aforementioned PAMs, the brushed case does not show scratches as much and it is a sub to boot. ;)

When I do sports or work around the house, I always wear my 318 mounted on rubber. It's not a beginner version but an H with low beat, I also had to change the movement in my h fact 177m, but the one in the 318 is holding really good.

If it's not about money, buy the watch you want to wear.

I really do prefer the 318. It seems like the 2011 H-Fac with the lowbeat have about a 50/50 failure rate with their movements. I guess I could just swap a regular non-decorated highbeat into the 318 for $20 or so....but then the cost would even up with the 111. Damn, now I'm back to where I started!

Just to throw a spanner in the works Robb have you considered the Pam 092 Arktos, Toro has on special @$139 from the noob factory, nice and rugged and fantastic price, just a thought if your looking for a Pam beater

Sharks, I actually have considered both. Its an awesome price for both of them, but I prefer the 6497 to the 7750 (for now, anyways). The 7750s I've had have been a bit sensitive to hits/bangs, and I also worry about the bezel letters coming off. Problem is I work at a pharmacy in shipping/delivery and I need to kove quickpy a lot of times, and my watch tends to take hits. I do have half a mind to pick up the gmt anyways! I've fogotten how addictive this hobby is...
