Looks like a 44mm. Is a power reserve. On bracelet. With a quick date and open case back.

Looks like the caseback may have even been swapped for a 111 open caseback... but the movement sure looks gen.

That sir is a PAM 171 and it is definitely NOT gen. It is not even a good enough rep to be on the PAM review guide. However, it is fitted with a seagull 23 jewel working power reserve which is pretty cool but the finish of the watch (Details) are not good and will yield a low-quality replica. Here are pics of gen for comparison:

This is the Gen movement: Officine Panerai OP IX which is actually a modified soprod movement if I am not mistaken (Not an inhouse panerai movement)

Hmm. That 171 is brushed on the case except the bezel. This one I have is polished case and bezel.

Regardless of that, what is the level of confidence that this is not a genuine movement?

Scott that is not a gen movement. I am 150% sure of it.

from a random google search for the same watch - this is a 23J seagull working power reserve movement. I had the same movement in my rep PAM090

Weird thing is, the 171 doesn't have a quick date set pusher according to some pics I saw on TRF but the one I have has it.

Yes, the genuine does not have it, the date is set via the crown. But since this is a replica PR movement, that function does not exist therefore they had to make a quick set pusher to accomodate changing the date. Just another way of showing that this is a rep movement.

Question - what are you trying to determine?

is it rep?
is it good quality?
is it worth holding on to?

not sure what your goals are. As i mentioned before, unfortunately its not the best quality of a replica. If you want a really nice PR panerai it will cost you quite a bit. DSN has a line of PR watches that come with the correct soprod movement (As per gen) but the rotor is not engraved the way the gen is. The base movement however is the same. The rest of the watch is good (Not great or 'super' as we call them)

Your best best is to get a Noob or KW case and insert the dial hands and movement from DSN - it will wind up costing you over a grand for the combo but you will have one amazing piece.

Thanks for all the info. Only was looking to determine if it was gen. My friend got it, for free. So he will keep it and wear it as is. Appreciate all the info and quick responses.

The genuine version has a brushed Titanium mid-case. The gen version does not have a date set pusher.

There are too many inaccuracies with the watch you posted to list here, but trust me... the watch you posted can be spotted as a poorly made rep with minimal observation. The low-bar A's on the dial and poorly done CP are immediate tells from the front.

And the genuine 171 has a solid case back...
