Hi guys, today I've elected the replacement lugs for my 292J.

Before that, I have ordered 2 straps to replace the crappy rep strap. Not that expensive, but it's 100% real leather.

Anyhow, I really had a difficult time trying to replacing the strap. Especially with the brown one where it has a steel tube inside the strap hole. I've tried for hours, but it never fit. With the red strap (no steel tube) , it can fit but after I screw it, the lugs will easily slide from the hole.

Please help me for a tips in changing radiomir strap. From the picture it looks like so much gap

I also noticed that the ceramic case is not scratcher oof. Certainly I've managed to scratch it because of trying to put the lugs into the hole.

And which strap do you think will suit the 292 better?

Thanks in advance

Try to assembling and disassembling lugs withouit the strap.
You will get familiarized with the fixation system.
You will see clearly how the tip of the screws go into the notch of the lug wires to press the wire and fixing it.
Please spend some time trying without straps until get the knowledge perfectly and get the lugs completely tightened.

An after that you can try again with the straps, but getting before some practice without them.

I assume really the way to do it:

No worries about scratching. Ceramic is completely scratch proof.
You are "scratching" your screws and tools with the ceramic and you are getting screw and tools material in the ceramic case. You would need to remove this material from the ceramic. Try "polishing" with some tooth paste and cotton or ink rubber eraser.

Stealthy...if it is a small (3 to 4mm) steel tube you are speaking about, that is to firmly hold the 2 lugs straight together inside the strap. It is hard to get the lugs to seat correctly, but that is what it is for.
As far as the screws not holding the lugs, you have to make sure the lugs are inserted the proper distance inside the case for the screws to be able to seat into the notches cut our of the lugs. If your screws are not centered right over the notches in the lugbars, they will not screw far enough in and are not holding the lugbars well.
I do not have sufficently good enough taste to advise you on which strap to use, however. :)
Hope this makes sense and helps!

ooooops....sorry, Ale, I did not see your post or I wouldn't have responded!

Am glad for the info about the ceramic, though...I am going to look at some ceramics now.

Also, Stealthy...if you are talking about steel tubes that came with your straps, like if you received with your straps tubes that are the same width as the straps...you do not want to use those, as they will wear off the black color of your lugbars, and scratch them all up. Hopefully, you are talking about the small sleeves/tubes that hold the lugbars together. I put a very TINY amount of superglue on the end of one lugbar to hold the little sleeve in place. Makes it a little easier.
You said replacement lugs...if they are Panatime lugbars they are a little wider than the originals, and might have to be, uh.....persuaded to fit :)

stealthy,

are those panatime or outside source lug bars? while changing out my strap, one of the tiny rubber or silicone tubes noobfactory placed on the bottom of the lug bars broke, so the top left side of my lug will wiggle a bit even it's screwed in properly. the remaining three sides are perfectly ok, so I suspect that tiny rubber/silicone piece is used to hold them in place.

i was initially going to order panatime lugs, but having read multiple threads and pming individuals that have them, i ultimately decided to just go to puretime (our td) and order a set of replacement lugs/screws directly from noobfactory. if things don't work out for you, perhaps that's something you can do.

Very useful advice!
I have made that sometimes

Hi Ale, Marco, & Jaychou

Thanks so much for the replies.

After sometime, I realize that the problem was caused by the tube that comes with the strap (the long 26mm one). After I removed it I managed to squeeze it.

I bought my lugs from ebay, and it comes with the small tube included in the selling package. Anyhow, I decided not to use it because its a bit hard to put the lugs into the tube.

I also noticed that this ebay lugs sits higher compared to the standard lugs, hopefully it's not because I install it correctly, but I've tried to push it further and it won't move.

This is the 292 with the new shoes, what do you think?

Looks the goods. Very nice mate! I especially like these 292s on brown with black stitching too. Ties in nicely with the case.

Ale...this is what I found in the KW 388. Noob puts a little silicone or plastic sleeve in this model, and KW used the same thing but made of metal for the 388.
I believe this to be primarily a spacer to put the lugbar end the correct distance from the back of the case hole to make the screw seat into the lug-end cutout correctly. I guess they also provide some added diameter, and the loss of that diameter is causing Jaychou's lug to fit looser.

oh my....after I managed to wear it for 1 full day, this morning one of the lugs got loose and the watch almost fell of my hand....I lost the lugs but fortunately still got some spare.

Is it a good idea to put some glue when you place the lugs to the case?

I'm kinda frustrated with this watch.....but I love the look of it so much

Loose screw is a common issue.. Put some loctite before you tighten the screw. DO NOT over tighten as the rep screw is quite soft.

There is a little trick used by a lot of gen guys with these small issues with strap variations, size of strap holes and holding bars to gether as you fix into the case...

You take the tip of a biro ink tube and cut it ...it slips perfectly over the bars and helps support straps with bigger lug holes etc...it also stiffens and strengthens the lugs themselves in daily wear...

If you are going for after market SS or PVD lug bar and screw sets then I would suggest the sets from Watchobsession...

They are cheaper than Panatime if you are in EU but also they are better quality IMHO especially the screws and washers ... :)

I always had my older rep Rads retapped... as rep threads were shite...however I cannot comment in respect of the current rep rads.. :)

I have more info on the biro trick if it dont make sense...just ask :)

Pete, this is great info. I would love to have any more info you can provide for the re-tapping….and the ink tube is a great idea and I will use this one right now. I don't even know what a biro ink tube is, but it sounds like our Bic pen tube (?) Any more info would be really appreciated!

Pete and Ale, thanks for the tips and link.

I don't know what's biro ink either but I'll do my research.

Regarding loctite, which type of loctite should I use?

I assume I dip the tip of the screw into the loctite and than put it in place?

If somehow the loctite touch the ceramic case, is it easy to clean it?

Biro ink is a ball-pen. You can see the pics in the link above

Loctite 222 and 243 are good for this purpose
No worries about stains
Anyway you cannot use a big quantity, just apply a bit only in the thread of the screw (with a toothpick).
If you think you can have some Loctite in the head base of the screw better go to 222 (it is a bit less strong)
