Getting To Know The Place

Hi to all fans of Pans,

I have been asked by a good friend to get him a Panerai rep. I know NOTHING (Rollies yes - but the big Italian beasts - nada, rien, zilch!) about them.

I told him to look at a few photos and we'd go from there. He has looked on the official site and likes the Luminor 1950 8 days GMT (PAM 233 I think). First question is does this exist as a rep? If so is it any good? I suspect it does not exist so lets take it a step further and ask for recommendations - if you kind people would not mind. Keep the thought that he likes the 233 and for what its worth I would be happier if he had an ETA movement. Thanks for any feedback/info and you never know, I might just be converted one day - meanwhile back to my beloved vintage Rollies!

Cheers to one and all.

Dieselpower.

P.S. He is willing to spend about $350

Try a PAM and your Rollies will be left on the winder. I have 10 Rollies and they are all sitting in the watch box.

Before I joined this forum I never heard anything about Panerai......strange

Good one to start with is the PAM111h fully modded.

I second the 111h. I have had one for about a year. I get very positive comments everytime I wear it.

I have a 63 also. It gets almost as much arm time as the 111h. It looks great with the rubber strap.

The budget looks really good. I would say the "perfect" Fiddy 127 will fit the bill too (superlumed, long canon pin, etc.).

Well..... the Fiddy will bring up the question.... should it be the same size as the pam 233 (44mm) or are other sizes to be considered (such as the Fiddy at 47mm)???

I'd check Ruby's ad of about 2 weeks ago...PAM 111h with swan neck Swiss for $250 on a stainless band...then I head over to Elliot's website and check out the daily specials/outlet...for the remailing $100 you could get a couple of nice straps.....

I'd get him a modded davidsen 111h with a decent leatherstrap.
Classy watch, can't go wrong. :D

With that kind of budget you can go directly to Davidsen. I don't know about the 233, but I love my 127, and Davidsen's is the best. Fully modded right out of the box.

My runner-ups would be the 111 (SS) and the 177 (Ti)

Anyone have Silix's 063 with the Chinese movement. How does it compare. Dang it, all I wanted was a nice sub when I started my rep quest. I too have been suck in.
And I still want an Omega Bond and I never really wanted a PAM, but boy the 063 is a pretty watch.

I don't have this watch with a chinese movement....and I would probably stick to an ETA on this one. Just my 2 cents

The 233 uses the same case as the Fiddy, so they are both 47mm.

@dieselpower:

Wow! Your friend is going for the Gusto!

The 233 is a fine piece... In-house 8-day movement with GMT, and more

Sorry PeepShow, but the 233 is 44mm 8) 8)

unfortunately, there is no rep avail for that...

The gen is *only* around USD 10,900 IF you can get one ;)

Depends on what attracts him to the model... if it's all the complications, then no rep can satisfy that.. get the gen

However, if your friend likes the mini-fiddy-styled case (what's a fiddy? clicky-searchy please ;) )

... then there's plenty to be had with that case style:

- Check out the 212 and the 253
- Also check out the 'submersibles'
- OR go with the FIDDY!! a 47mm monster.

My 2 cents

I stand corrected. For some reason I read the specs on p.com as 47mm. I need to get my eyes checked.

Here's a gen for your buddy:

http://cgi.ebay.com/Panerai-Luminor-195 ... dZViewItem

Does he have $14K lying around?

I used to think it was 47mm too, until I started looking around for more details

As for the pricing, dealers have it for 10,900 methinks... in the wild it can be had around 12,000 - 13,000

the latest Richemont price increase might change it though

(hey diesel, are you even reading this thread?  ) ;)
