First time on these forums and I'm super super overwhelmed with all the information. I'm looking to get my first rep watch and I've somewhat narrowed it down to a Panerai. If someone could give me a crash course on who to buy from, what to look for etc that would be great. I know there are trusted dealers, but like I said, I'm pretty overwhelmed with all the choices.I want something casual. Probably with a brown or dark brown strap. I like the style with the little guard over the crown. Whats in style right now? What are you guys wearing?

I should add that I don't know a ton about watches so if it comes down to spending say $200 on a watch that is 95% accurate vs $500 for one that is 98% accurate I'd rather go with the cheaper one. I want quality, but I'm not looking for the absolute most accurate replica possible. I don't know enough to tell the difference so many small differences will go over my head anyways.

It depends on the rep brand and the factory. In some cases 3% difference could translate into an average vs super rep. Even if this is your first venture into the rep world, don't settle on a poor cheaper rep.

Love me some PAMs! For a first killer PAM I would echo xj4sonx recommendation in the PAM111 V4. I have the V3 modded by Vac and it's still one of my favorite watches. Movement is accurate and so is the rest of the watch.

So many choices though!!

Mate there is an entire Panerai section (you are posting in it), go look, read and study. What we like isn't important its what you like that is.

From a new guy (1 month into Panerais) to a new guy:

If you´re planning to go into Panerais, first you have to know that are few different case styles for Panerai watches: Luminor, Luminor 1950, Radiomir and Submersible. The most popular and well know is the Luminor. Read here: http://www.paneraisource.com/articles_caseshape.shtml

Second, read this article (wich is a good start to know a little bit about Panerai watches): http://www.watchpaper.com/2014/07/09/buying-your-first-panerai/
(note that this guy recommends the PAM112 as your first Panerai, wich is very similar to PAM111)

After that, i would recommend you to read the PAM REVIEW GUIDE to choose the Rep model you want: https://forum.replica-watch.info/th...h-identification-evaluation-selection.107365/

But for your first PAM, i have to agree xj4sonx, tbutery and SkullCrusher advices: The PAM111 is a good choice (because is the base model, and is a Super Rep).

Well you may not know enough about PAMs to be able to tell, but you might encounter others who can tell if you're wearing a rep (if you go with the cheap version). A few more dollars will net you a nice super rep, certainly not 500$. I really don't want to recommend a watch, unless you've seen some that you like, please mention them here and we can go from there. Suggesting a PAM111 is the standard response but for all I know your wrist might be huge or you like larger watches, in which case the PAM111 would be too small for you.

Have a read of the PAM Reference Guide (it's in my signature) and browsing it you may find watches that fit your style. ;) Good luck!

Thanks for the replies. I guess I was just wondering what was in style right now. Additionally, I wasn't sure if some models were closer reps than others.

Having said that, I went through the reference guide (huge help) and I am considering a 390 right now. Specifically the "N Noob" on puretime ($208). I also noticed there is a h factory "beginner" ($175) and a h factory v3 ($258) on toro bravo

Any feedback on what version, dealer etc would be great.

The noob 390 is discontinued. The h factory 390 is also a super rep.

Great choice

Also looking at the V6F 411 on toro bravo. Saw no mention of the V6F in the reference guide but its a great price ($129 reg $198).

Whats the difference between the beginner and v3 h factory 390s?

The size of the case is a matter of personal preference... i`m big guy with huge wrist. I´d like big watches (46-49mm) but i also think 44mm a reasonable size for huge wrist. Just to illustrate, the biggest Rolex available is 44mm...

All the more reason to give some examples of what models you like for the brand, especially when the brand has a range of sizes available.

Great post except 112 is a base model the 111 is not due to the seconds hand. Both great choices however the 000 will get you a base model with logo on dial and sausage dial. Me personally would suggest the new h factory lume application is outstanding

Whatever you choose, a manual winding 44mm PAM is a great starter choice. 111, 112, 000, 005, 411, 390 and so on are just a matter of personal taste.
Noob would be the best choice but they're discontinued so not all models are available. V6f (formerly KW) and H factory have their pros and cons but they equal themselves imho.
