Hey mate -
I'm relatively new here are well, but I do have experience in other rep scenes (not watches). The search function is your best friend. There are a lot of stickied guides specifically for those of us who are new and need guidance and/or advice. I'd try and find something(s) you like first, without caring if they make reps or not. No one here will be able to tell you what you or your wife want to have on your wrists - that part's all personal choice (and the fun part)!
I totally understand that watches may not be a hobby and you may not really care what movement does what and you may just want a reliable, close to genuine watch - if you don't care about whether it's a Rolex, IWC, DW, Cartier, etc. you may be better served by a gen of a reliable brand or micro brand company.
From how you phrased the question - maybe give these spots a look:

Bunch of threads that feature
users showing off their reps. This might provide an idea of the aesthetics of different brands and models, and bonus is you know that a rep exists!

In terms of Mexico - I'm not aware of TD's there, since reps come out of China, that's where I'd be looking. Street vendors and the like won't have the quality stuff in general.
