Having a hard time pulling the trigger on the 111h

Many of you have been a great help with my decision over which PAM to get... however, I can't get my head around the manual wind... is it a pain in the ass? Will I remember to do it? Is the CN movement robust enough to take years of manual winding??

So, my question is, are there any automatic PAM reps that are very accurate to the original and of high quality? The 111H is a great watch no question - is there an automatic equal?

It's not bad.

I have a real 111 and I wear it 4-5 days a week, I wind it every morning and love to watch the movement through the case back. Look at it as a awesome thing, you do it for 8 days and it will be a habit.

Good luck,

I have a new 111H recently purchased and is by the way my third PAM and its the best. Its classic, simple and has gotten more kudos than any other Pam I have. As far as the manuel wind its a throw back to the fifties and I enjoy it!
So there! 8)

You guys are talking about some info here.

It's good for me cuz I am thibking about buying a 111.

Only can't decide if the manu winding is really for me.....but do give it a thought, though.

Anyway, If I am not waiting my 005 to arrive, I would put the trigger now....

manual wind

I have the el version 111h and I love winding it. It is almost second nature to me to wind it at the same time everyday.

Winding one of these gives you the time to admire the watch, and enjoy the fact you have money left over to buy the next one. [smilie=thumbsup.gif]

Totally agree. I recently purchased a 111H - first time with a manual watch, but its definitely not a hassle.

Its nice to have a see-thru back to admire.

I guess this is something like driving. The PAM 104 is automatic and has a date viewer, but with a closed SS back, it works well, but no control like a manual wind - and also much less fun.

Once you get a decent collection of automatics, you will have to resort to hand winding them anyway. I've got about a half dozen Autos, and by the time I get around to wearing some of them, they will be stopped, and adjusting ones with day/date/month chronos is a pain, so I just wind them every day. Very therapeutic!

Well, this is a bit late, as the original poster was having trouble in April ... but a manual wind watch just reminds me of my childhood, and if I could manage a manual watch when I was 8, I'm sure I can still manage.

well..i've more than 5 panerai historic manual winds and i wear them almost every day..the manual wind definitely gives each of em character, some harder to wind, some ticks louder, etc..and it's this character which sets them apart from the autos which all u do is pick em up, wear them and take em off at the end of the day, kind of boring, eh? with the manual wind u'll get to admire the watch, feel the winding gears engage and hear them clicking while u wind em..quite an orgasmic experience which will soon become a habit..sort of like making and drinking a good cup of latte every morning..

and imagine the history that goes behind manual wound watches, imagine urself as a frogman winding the MOD-issued dive watch everyday before taking a dive and going into enemy territory for some covert operation....

~corny reasons to get a manual wind but yeah, a WIS is always a WIS.... 8)

All good points. My first watch was also a manual wind, and so it does bring something from the past back to be winding again; and yes, it's therapeutic. It even causes me to STOP for 5 mins in the morning and wind up some reps before I hit my mad 65 km commute.

I also enjoy the sensation of feeling movement as it's wound (as long as it's a smooth one and has been serviced)... seeing the movement is a bonus.

Last, I also tend to find that it's my autos that are stopped - so next step is to get a box + winders!

Cheers, BBB
