Has anyone opened their 029M with Swiss movement?

I am still waiting for mine to arrive but I am wondering if the movement is really Swiss and what is the quality overall in terms of accuracy, GMT function etc? I'd normally go with Asian auto clones but as 029M Asian are all sold out hence decided to test the Swiss auto waters...

Functionally is the swiss version same as the asian one? AFAIK the gen 029's GMT hand move by intervals of 1 hour, whereas the rep sweeps continuously.

The a2836 GMT hand jumps in 1 hour increments when being set
The eta 2836 should be no different

I have the same question as well. Would love to see the movement and I will see it when I get mine... When I asked my TD to take an open caseback picture to see the movmt in my QC pics, he said this would void the warranty... lol! Come on... Give me a break.

By the way - look here: http://www.repgeek.com/showthread.php?p=1748140#post1748140

Appears that first issues with 029 movements are starting to emerge...as always.

Makes me feel sort of better as I have been putting cash aside to buy a gen 005 and after a couple of years of reps collection I am starting to think most of them are inherently of rather poor manufacturing quality (regardless of fact that externally are looking ok and getting better) it makes more and more sense to fork out and buy a gen. In last 10-12 months alone I have had on many occasion something (movement, stem, screws, lume falling off, hands crooked, etc etc etc) that gets broken all of the sudden and you back to square one, sourcing parts that dont fit, buying whole watches for parts and then having to sell the remaining parts etc. A lot of hassle for not much gain in the end - I now have 3 broken H/N PAMs that I cant be even bothered to start repairing and each had may be 2-3 months of wrist time in total.

Are you sure about this? I've never owned any of the A2836 movements, but the Swiss 2836 movements modified to be GMTs do NOT set in 1hr increments, they are completely adjustable, just like the minute hand is. 2893s have the GMT complication that sets in 1 hr "jumps".

That's my experience, at any rate.

+1

2836 GMT in 029M is not a one hour jump changeover for the GMT hand

the A2836 on my wifes Gmt IIc moves like a minute hand when you set time. does not move in 1 hr increments. but when setting the gmt at date/gmt mode, the gmt hand jumps in 1 hr increments.

Huh, the Swiss 2836s that I've owned in the past did NOT function that way. Interesting.

Seems that the a2836 with GMTs do jump hourly, but the ETA 2836 with GMT move continuously based on feedback on the various forums.

Pretty odd since they are said to use the same asian GMT transfer gears. Any WISs. care to chime in?

I believe the question is what does the GMT hand do when setting it. Does it jump or move smooth?

Not how it advances in time keeping. :)

I've had both the CHS and ICHS in Swiss and as far as I remember, they both jumped in setting.

Neither were of particularly good quality movements, either. The GMT function is installed in China so don't expect a "real" Swiss movement in total.
