I have a question...

When I wind my Pams, the crown has a small "recoil" after each rotation. Is this normal? Do the gens also do this?

What causes it? Is it bad for the movement?

Okay...so that's four questions.

yes. this is normal... It happens because there is a locking mechanism that works with every click. Every click that you push forward, the spring wants to uncoil... and it is because of this lock, that prevents it from unwinding. This lock has a tolerance of about 3 degrees on the winding gear, so there will be a 3 degree tolerance for it to unwind. Sometimes you will get the full 3 degrees of 'recoil' and sometimes you wont get any because by chance, your wound it right past the threshhold of the lock.

If you open up your CB, and wind it, you'll know exactly what i'm talking about.

In order to unwind your watch before any servicing, people hold back the locking mechanism, and let the spring unwind slowely.

I hope that answers your q.

If it's a display caseback, you can see the click mechanism and how it works :)

I have done this and it works - but you MUST have a good grip on the crown to stop it from unwinding too quickly.

Thanks guys!

At least now, I won't be worrying!

Do the gens also do this? I guess not because not all my Pams do this....

Which other PAMs do you have?

It is a trait of the handwind movement, I am sure that 99% of them do it - there is nothing to worry about!!

Quite normal, it's just the spring barrel returning to the last notch.
