Hi,

I have recently bought a Grand Carrera calibre 17 and it was keeping perfect time for 3 days, well it lost about 15 seconds a day but I can live with that. So on the forth day it has just stopped. It starts again once it is lightly shaken but it should just keep running on its own right?

The only time I take the watch off is to go to sleep so I think that the power reseve would be enough as it should be about 30 to 40hrs correct?

Now once I shake it it only runs for an 1 hr or two then stops even if I lightly shake it continously for a minute and I am wearing after I have shaken it.

Is there anything I can do to make this work better and last longer?

The movement in that watch is one of the most complicated A7750s and includes many extraneous parts that are potential failure points (I like to remove the ones that aren't needed). Unfortunately, as with most A7750s, they tend to be dirty and underoiled from the factory, so it most likely needs a service.

See this thread for an example of what is involved: http://forum.replica-watch.info/vb/showthread.php/tag-grand-carrera-cal-17-62643?t=62643

The symptoms you describe point to possible dirt or lack of lubrication at the mainspring, barrel, or main geartrain. But it's possible the balance is also sticking.

Click on the FAQ link in my signature for more info on servicing. Once serviced, you should easily get 3 to 5 trouble-free years of use before the next service is due. This is the same service interval recommended for most genuine watches.
