Hey guys, i got a spare 111 noob case set. I am planning my own build. I also have the broken 6497 it came with, cp is broken. Is it possible to get thet eta 6497 from ebay, and switch over the plates from the broken 6497 so i have the same look and deco, but with swiss movement? Or the plates won't be interchangeable? Still learning but from the pics they appear to be the same screw and jewel placement, except for the plates.

Once i sort this out i'll be sourcing a gen dial and hopefully build my first watch :)

Never tried but I think it can be done. You will have to source an ETA 6497-2 though, not your usual low beat 6497 off a pocket watch, and use the asian balance assembly. Unless you want to mess with the balance wheel that is.
Sounds like a watchsmith job, strodda from here or unreformed66 from HF can help you with this in CONUS.

Thanks. I was thinking of this movement.

Then replace just the plates so i can use a transparent caseback and depending on which gen dial i find, 111 perhaps.

That's a 6497-1, balance wheel is different from the Asian which is based on 6497-2. First beats @18,800 second @21,600
Thanks. Would that matter if I want to keep all the gears and balance wheel, pretty much everything and just replace the top covers (not sure what you call them). So i get swiss movement but looks like the 6497-2 from 111.

There still is the problem with the balance bridge, the Asian has the swan neck regulator the Swiss doesn't. You can't just swap the balance assembly because the wheel is different in these two movements as it needs to sweep at different speed.

Ahh ok that makes sense
What about unitas 6497-2? How is that different form the eta 6497-2? Is that a clone like an asian 6492-2?

AFAIK unitas developed the 6497 calibre and was later acquired by ETA

Rhanks but that also does not have a swan neck. And i can straight up switch the deco or top plates to make it look 111ish?

Yes, as I said, I think there should be no problem swapping the bridges and the balance assembly to the swiss movement.
You would end up with Swiss gears, Swiss barrel, Asian jewels, Asian balance wheel and mainspring. Everything would need to be oiled and regulated.
Did you think about simply modding the Asian movement?

Never thought about just modding the asian movement but will look into that as well. The movement is also a lot cheaper so definitely will check it
