I AM MOST LIKELY GOING TO BE GETTING MY S/O A WOMEN'S ROLLIE YACHTMASTER AS A STOCKING STUFFER.

WAS CURIOUS WHAT OTHER SUGGESTIONS YOU WOULD HAVE FOR A GOOD WOMEN'S WATCH FROM VARIOUS OTHER BRANDS....

My wife's current favorites are a man's DJ, the baby blue "wavy" dial, on a SS jubilee; 2 men's Crazy Hours; and the quartz Chanel. The DJ was only $88 delivered from Watcheden. The Crazy Hours were under $80 from House of Souvenirs. The Chanel was about $55 off iOffer. The woman's YMs are poor replicas. I haven't told my wife this as she's fond of her YM. Here are some pics:

Her favorite bling Rollie:

The YM:

A bling FM Long Island:

I think a Sub looks good on her, too:

The only expensive watch was the bling gold Rollie because I bought it from Idealwatches before I landed here.

thanks for the ideas. That yachtmaster does have an overall bad look to it. I am not very familiar with that particular model, though.

I just got a yachtmaster, which is why I wanted to get her one. Yea, I know.... cheesy..... we would match....lol

But now that I think about it.... I have been wanting a DJ for a long time. Maybe it's time to get a matching his/hers DJ's. I am good on the bling, but it is a very nice looking watch on a woman.

:)

anyone know where I could source them from that could promise delivered before x-mas? I know Ruby is supposed to be the go to person for DJ's, but I don't wanna deal with the unknown....... would like someone I can just make payment ot and have them shipped. thanks!

Rolex Ladies' Masterpearl (Ruby has a nice selection)
Chanel J-12 - several colors and bling and movement combinations from most dealers
Tag Ladies' Link
Chopard Happy Sports (my wife's favorite)

These all work well on my wife with very small wrists - although the Tag and Chanel look very man-sized on her, but would fit nicely on most women.

Rob-- best bet for womens' reps is probably Watcheden. They have as many--if not more--ladies' reps than any other dealer. You'll have to kind of hunt for them, though-- the ladies models are buried with all the rest of reps. They don't have a dedicated ladies' section. In terms of the models, if you do a search for something like "ladies reps," you'll find lots of threads. In fact, one of these threads pops up about once every two to three months. And the answers are almost always the same-- mainly because there really isn't a lot of attention to ladies' reps.

So, in no particular order, I'd say some ladies reps to check out are:

Chanel J12 in ceramic
Rolex Masterpiece
Chopard Happy Diamonds Sport
Cartier (pretty much any model, but the Tank Francaise and Kissime are very good)
Burberry-- anything
Gucci -- anything
Omega Constellation

Those are the ones I can think of off the top of my head. If your S/O is anything like mine, you may want to focus on quartz watches instead of automatics. My S/O has a rep Rolex Masterpiece which looks great, but she never wears because she hates setting it everytime she puts it on.

We need a watch section for women, I still say it would be a great idea. :|

We've talked about it a lot, but the problem--as you saw from levelmanroger's and my posts, is that you can pretty much count the number of decent ladies' reps on one hand. And it's been that way for as long as I've been into reps. There just isn't the demand for high end ladies reps. In that respect, it mirrors the gen industry. There's a reason that most high end watches are aimed at men. High end female watches tend to be basically a diamond bracelet that happens to tell the time.

For browsing purposes, Ruby is easiest. She has a pretty big selection, and at the top you can chose Ladies (under gender) and look at ONLY the ladies' watches without having to weed through all the men's models. When you pick what you like, then shop it around.

The Rolex Explorer I is a fantastic rep. Truly worthy of "Super Rep" status, and at 37mm, it's a nice size for a woman, IMO.

My wife loves hers....

i would suggest a cartier .....no second hands and a eta quartz movement....

no headaches with adjusting it and keping it wound up. the right thing for the ladies.

nobody can tell its quartz.....and most gen house a quartz anyways.

Is there someone who would be so kind as to post a list of common watch abbreviations? I know that this forum is really targed to people who know what they're talking about, but for those of us who are learning, there's about to be a permanent crease in our foreheads trying to figure out what everyone is talking about. I've figured out AD, gen, rep, SOSF, and a handful of others, but I'm still in the dark for most of the others. I read Fakemaster's list, but most of you are using way more abbreviations than the list shows.

I'll even trade a list of your abbreviations for a list of its medical counterparts.

BPH: benign prostatic hypertrophy (something you don't want your prostate to have unless you enjoy being Roto-rootered)

conus: as in conus medullaris, for the purposes of this discussion, the bottom end of your spinal cord. Only worth mentioning because you can imagine what I was thinking when I kept reading about "free shipping to the conus" (I have since figured it out).

For browsing purposes, Ruby is easiest.

I'm glad that you specified that it was for browing purposes, although it still sounds sort of bad.

I'll go to watcheden to check out the ladies selections but I'm disappointed that they don't have Breitlings AND most of the prettier watches are also covered in crystal bits that are only designed to remain adherent to the watch for about a week.

"free shipping to the conus"
or free shipping to Uranus. Either one works, mediclly or horologically.

I've seen a purported pic of Ruby, and I might be in under any meaning of my statement!

Do women ever like anything longer than a week anyway?
BPH = beats per hour.

Um, you can keep the medical abbreviations. That's OK.

Seriously, one of the best starter watches for ladies you can get is a Cartier. They vary in terms of accuracy to the gen, but most of them are pretty good watches with an ETA quartz. I'd personally go for the SS (that's Stainless Steel) Ballon Bleu. Absolutely stunning watch for women. Check out Watcheden or Timeshop. And no, it's not really accurate at all (Cartier only makes the Ballon Bleu in automatic and in yellow gold or platinum), but it's still a great looking watch. If you want accuracy, go for a Cartier Tank Francaise. Scary close to the gen. The Rolex DJs (Date Justs) are OK, but not great. I don't know that I've ever seen one with anything but a 21j (that's a cheapo Chinese automatic movement with 21 jewels).

Ruby sells hers with a 2671-2 movement, which I believe is 28.8bph, for @ $200+/- shipped.
Unless she takes it off and allows someone to compare it up close to a gen, there's maybe a couple dozen people on the planet that could tell it's a rep - try "examining" a 26mm watch on a moving arm.

I agree with Hooligan, the Expl I is one of the nicest watches a woman can wear. For any occasion.

However, I just ordered a full ceramic hbb all white for my gf's birthday. I am very curious how it will turn out.

Ok, we all know women are just different then us men, right? and in most cases they're unpredictable, which is why we love them I guess,,,, so yeah you can go browse whatever site under ladies watches but then again you're gonna miss all those mens watches that also look good on the ladies, no? now some ladies like only small watches but most often they'll like both small and mid-large watches or mens watches as well.

Check this pam049 bro, looks sweet eh!..... and they love to color coordinate the straps with their outfits,,,,, you know what bro, now that I think about it,,, forget it!!! dont get her a pam,,,, you'll regret it after shes hounding you to change her strap again or to buy that strap that goes with her new bag already and get express shipping too 'cuz she needs it pronto dammit...... :D

Thanks, guys, that does help a lot. And thanks especially, seanf, for explaining your abbreviations so I don't have to do a search for each term I have to interpret. It's good of you too, to help me narrow down the list to a few better choices too.

Do women ever like anything longer than a week anyway?

So the implication that the decoration is designed to fall off so that the woman will feel like she has a new watch? Genius.

Anyway, I"m glad that a few of you have recommended the Cartiers, because I have my eye on a Cartier Laniere just now. It does bring to mind someone's comment that ladies' watches tend to be diamond bracelets that just happen to tell time, but that's why I'm enjoying talking to all of you. I mean, you're watch snobs, but you're funny. :)

Now I have a different, possibly reasonable question. I'm noticing that a lot of the watches I like don't come in the sapphire crystal. I read the comparisons on the hardness scale, but can someone break it down to practical terms for me? I don't think that I'm unusually hard on watches, but I do tend to scratch the crystal face. Are normal non-rep watches in the $50 range usually sold with mineral crystal that I'm already scratching, or are they something even less durable than mineral crystal, in which case I can give mineral crystal a shot?

My most recent watch purchase was a Kish waterproof watch. Incidentally, that really was quite waterproof; the seller gave me permission to test it out, so I dumped it in a big stainsteel bowl of water for an hour and it held. And then my sister still managed to get water into hers with normal every day use. But she's special.
