I just wanted to share this project with you guys that I just finished. My neighbor had a golden retriever that passed away last summer, and he bought a concrete statue of a golden and asked if I would want to paint it for him to look realistic. So I started on it a few days ago. I started with painting 3 coats of white primer. Then 3 coats of the darker orange color. Then on top of that I mixed two different lighter colors of tan and orange/tan for the highlights. Painting animals has never been one of my fortes because doing the fur to get it to look just right is very tough. At least on this project the statue already had texture for the fur so that made it a little easier, but still time consuming. Here's some pics from beginning to end. This thing weighs about 400 pounds. It's a beast.

thanks Guys. Sub, I have no idea. I don't really have the time, but there was no way I could turn this down. My neighbor does a lot for me so I was glad to do it.

He worked at NAPA for over 30 years, and actually he still rebuilds motors for them, and does custom motor rebuilds for people. I'll take a pic of that car tomorrow. It's a modified. I think it has a modified chevy 350 in it. I'll have to look at it tomorrow. His grandson drives the car. He's a great racer, always at the top of the points lead at the three tracks they race at. My neighbor is probably somewhere between 70 and 80 and he works on engines everyday still. After every race he has that motor out of the car and in pieces rebuilding it the day after races. and gets it ready for the next week. I'll get some pics of it tomorrow.

We got it put out in his yard the other day and I took a video of it. Here's the video.

Took some pics of my neighbors car today. It has the LS3 419 modified engine. It is a frickin beast. He runs this car on the dirt track, and he has another that they take to cement tracks.

thanks Phil. I was glad to do it for him, and he does a lot for me too, and I can use his garage any time I want to. He's got a car lift so it makes it nice working on my cars.

I'll bet those open headers on that engine would wake up the neighborhood...

Nice work mate!
Nice Modified as well. I raced dirt track speedway for years when I had time and money for such things.

Thanks Guys, Whitey, I thought you knew. I was an art teacher for 11 years.

Kevin, that car is beyond loud. He runs the engine after he gets it put back in the car, and then another time or two before friday and saturday races. It shakes my house. I'm only about 75 feet from his house. The weirdest thing is it doesn't bother my deer one bit. The yard that she plays in is actually his yard, where we put the cement statue, and that's right next to his garage where the car is, and deer hate loud noises, but she is so used to it she doesn't budge.

thanks Boss, I haven't done much artwork in the past 9 months, just haven't had the heart for it, but this was a nice way to get back into it. I love going to watch them race. It is a lot of fun. That boy is very lucky he's got his grandpa to work on that car. He spends endless hours on it every week, and I know it's got to take a lot of money to keep it going. But that's his enjoyment, He just loves it. His motors that he builds are amazing. I"ll have to get some pics of some that he's built for people.
