1. Yes, they are stainless steel but just with a small layer of gold. The visual aspect might degrade over time but the structure of the watch has the same strength.
2. Of course the plating can get scratched and it cannot just be polished as a standard stainless steel watch.
3. It depends. Check the guide and search for reviews and photo shoots of the intended watch.
4. The technic is plating: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gold_plating
5. Again, Wikipedia is your friend: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Physical_vapor_deposition
6. Use the guide, please: http://forum.replica-watch.info/vb/...earch-Identification-Evaluation-amp-Selection

I'll second that, very good reply lmmo. I'll add that you could also have a stainless watch plated. I have brush plated a couple of stainless watches with cyanide gold gel, which is far more durable and longer lasting than the bath plating method used on reps.

How much gel did you need for 1 watch?

Maybe the PAM511. But I wouldn't bother with any golden PAM given that none is a super rep and there are so many excellent alternatives.

Sorry for the delay guys, I forgot to add a subscription to this thread.

True cyanide gold gel plating solution starts at about $100 an ounce. It should not be confused with standard gold plating solution that has been turned into a gel using Cabosil or similar products. It comes down to the concentration of gold, or weight by volume; The latter being much less gold by volume than a typical cyanide gel solution. Without going into a bunch of technical discussion, the process of plating with cyanide based products results in a far more durable final finish compared to newer, more environmentally friendly plating options. There is a wealth of information on the subject out there for those interested, including proponents for both cyanide and newer acid based solutions.

If material is not being reclaimed, you will use about 1/4 oz per watch. To give you an idea, I can plate a set of rims with 8oz of cyanide gel, assuming I reclaim excess material. Cyanide gold gel is best applied using a brush plating process. A simple, low cost rectifier, along with a standard stainless plating wand with a fabric mop, or a purpose built detailing wand, can be used with good to excellent results.

Check out Caswell for plating supplies.

My last order of Cyanide Gold gel came from eBay seller: kx-928

In my experience, plating does come off due to scratches. Have owned RG watches for over 4 years and the colour only degrades ever so slightly although not too noticeable unless u put it side by side the a brand new gold rep. Scratches come off to reveal the silver coloured stainless steel beneath that had been plated over in gold when the watch was made.

I don't recommend any rep gold plated and less for a daily use
Sooner or later it will lose the coating
Besides they are bling and few credible (due to the price). But this is a taste matter

I have a very good collection of AP ROOs and one of them is a Rubberclad gold plated. It is a really nice watch, but due to above mentioned I have worn it only two days on about two years.
I like also HBB and I also have a good collection of them, I have no one gold plated

But as always is a bit a taste matter

Agree on the part about the need to take careful care of the plating as it indeed does wear out over the years. I wear my roo in rg as a daily beater and after a few months its still holding up good
