Hi I've just received a Rolex 1675 gmt with a clone eta movement stamped 2834-2. The gmt hand has stopped working. I am hoping to fix the issue. Does anyone out there have any experience or suggestions. Many thanks.

This will have to attacked from the dial side of the movement, so unfortunately its movement out, hands off and dial off. Could be a number of things, but I suspect when you get the dial off the fault will be obvious to you, if not post a pic and we'll take a look.

How long have you had the movement? The source? how long was it running correctly?

This may be overly simple...but it's happened to me before. When setting the hands it's very easy to put a slight bend in one of the hands, then depending on the rotation it may slightly rub against one of the others somewhere along the way...especially if the hand is not very snug on the spindle. You may see now why those first three questions are important. It could be something bigger, but i always try to eliminate the simplest explanation first.

Good luck,
Bob

After closer inspection there is a tiny gear which drives the large gmt gear wheel. This small gear is slipping. Any idea where I can get a new one?

Part number 2543 on the eta parts diagram. Called the intermediate date wheel. Should be able to get it from ofrei. Also try ebay. Some parts are available individually if you know the name and number.

Hold on sorry, didn't catch you needed it for a gmt drive. The one I told you is from a standard 3 hand. Should be the same name though.

I think the date jumper maintaining plate (ETA pt No:- 2595) has been filed too far back to hold the intermediate date wheel (what should be Eta pt No:- 2543) in position, on your GMT part No:- 2543 is not relevant, it's a different part which isn't available from ETA, it's provided as part of a kit to make up the GMT function.

so look at part number 2595 on Cousins website (technical downloads) view the shape of it and see how your component has been filed away to miss the top teeth of this gear, It should be filled away just enough to miss the top teeth but still to hold it down. Your looks like it's been filed way too far back and is just not holding the gear down and allowing it to jump out of mesh.

Thanks. It's a new watch and the problem occurred when I initially set the time. One of the lume dots is a bit high so this may have bent the gmt hand. I will check.

However once I removed the face and date wheel I could see that the large 24 gear doesn't rotate when advancing the time.
The gear which transfers the power from the hour wheel is a small stack of gears but top gear which engages the 24 hour wheel spins freely. Hence the 24 hour gear doesn't move. Shouldn't it be fixed to create a direct drive?

Thanks in advance.
