I just received a GF Avenger GMT and the rotor is rather noisy. Is that typical? It's almost as loud as a miyota before the bearings are oiled. Do I need to do the same here? I'm actually wondering if the rotor may have come loose, it makes quite a racket when I jiggle the watch.

Open the watch and check the rotor. It must not touch the movement! Check the screw if it is fastened.
If a very little drop of oil does not do the trick you may want to buy a gen eta ball bearing from the bay. After that it will be quiet.

Thanks. I did open up the watch, and the rotor is attached & securely screwed in, but it's bouncing ever so slightly which is causing the rattling/banging sound. I have an inquiry out to my TD as I don't think the noise it's making is normal (I might expect some noise when the rotor spins, but not actual "banging" against the inside of the watch). If worse comes to worse I may just remove the rotor entirely and make it a manual wind.

I appreciate your response though :)

Do not manual wind it too often. Eta 2824 and its clones are prone to fail because of a week crown wheel support. The crown wheel is working itself into the base material of the bridge. It is simply not constructed for manual winding. Therefore we have got eta 2801 for example which has got a much stronger crown wheel construction.

Good to know, thank you. Hopefully my TD will be able to offer a good solution.
