Getat PAM Homage Questions

Not sure where to put this question, I chose the Pam section because I seek the advice of you Pam Gurus.

I am thinking of getting a Getat Marina Militare homage, how is the build quality of their watch? I plan on getting one auto and one 6497 handwind. What kind of auto movements do they use for the running seconds @ 9 and datewheel @ 3? Are they pretty reliable?

How is the QC at Getat? It says it's waterproof, but should I take that with the same grain of salt as with other rep factories?

Any Getat input will be greatly appreciated. If you have one for sale in CONUS, let me know too!

Thanks all.

Getat sells good prroducts but he can have slowwwwwwwwwwww delivery times (2 months in some cases, going from some reports) and can occasionally get elements of an order wrong. That said, he does custom builds and is happy to accommodate your requests if he can do it, and has excellent prices :)

Check out Homage Forum as there are a few reviews on there!

Tat has great stuff. I've had a few pieces from him, back before I found RWI. He'll pretty much custom-build you the exact watch you want if you email him. His delivery can be slow at times, but that's the same with almost any rep dealer. As far as waterproofing goes, I'd have it independently pressure tested as with any other rep. Bottom line he comes through and I wouldn't hesitate to buy from him again!

Slow as molasses in January!

I ordered parts from him, and paid for them on August 5th.

No confirmation. Not a word.

If I see them in a month I will be elated.

That's just the way it is. No big deal.

My Tat is still running strong after years of abuse. To be honest though, Jackson has better prices and sells pretty much the same thing. He's a trusted dealer here and you'll have your watch faster.

^ Yup I've had a Jackson as well. His custom jobs are just as nice if you spec them right, and he's a super nice guy to boot.

I bought a few watches from Getat since Jan this year, the latest being a custom-built destro mini Fiddy which I ordered 2.5 weeks ago and got the shipping confirmation for three days ago (yet to receive it in Europe). I know ppl are complaining about the slowness and lack of communications but I personally never had any issues and all my transactions went though very smoothly, even when it required quote a few emails back and forth etc. Quality is - in my humble opinion - better or on par with the recent rep PAMs, lume was better and the movements he uses (Seagull) are a LOT nicer than what I gt in my rep PAMs. It is also 50% cheaper on average than buying a high-end rep from likes from PureTime and if you know a bit about watches and invest in tools, you can pick up branded spares (dials, case backs, even rep movements) on this board and have your own, better-build rep for quite a bit less. Plus it is fun to do it:)!

I hear good things about Getat, but the overall consensus is that shipping time is really slow. How fast does Jackson usually get stuff out to CONUS?

I love my Getat but he is slow and I had numerous emails due to
Miscommunication. My order was actually overlooked. He did apologize and offered extra options on my watch for free.

Yeah of the two I think Tat is arguably the more "e-famous", and hence gets more orders and has a longer lead time. Jackson's work is every bit as good but he isn't as well-known and it results in a shorter wait.

Ok after emailing Jackson a few times, I think I may go with them. Tell me about the movements. Is there a preference between auto and manual as far as reliability?

It depends on the model you're getting. If it has a datewheel or GMT hand, you're pretty much going to run an automatic. Otherwise I don't see why you wouldn't go for an A6497 manual wind...they are more visually correct and the manual wind give you the complete PAM "experience". Reliabiity wise they're about the same. Automatics will either be A21J (common) or A7750 (uncommon...I don't think I've seen a Tat or Jackson with an A7750). Manual will be A6497, which is also solid. Both should be maintained, of course, but if they are both are workhorse movements that will last a long time.

I just placed orders for my 8th and 9th tat watches. His communication depends on the time of the year and how busy he is. Wait time (in the US) can be anywhere between 4 to 16 weeks (yes I waited 16 weeks for one of them!!).
My recent orders have been responded to within 12 hours.
I keep going back to him because his watches have good build quality and even if the wait is long I know I am getting a quality product at the end of the day.
Jackson may be really good too... just haven't ordered anything thru him so far.
