Genuine PAM rubber deployant strap - VANILLA SMELL

Hi all

Ive bought a few gen rubber straps for my PAMs recently.

The latest one came from ebay (link below)

It stinks of vanilla. Is this correct for a gen!? It looks the real deal, it came in the original packaging and the deployant buckle it came with also looks gen.

The strap has very smooth casting lines on the edges. Flawless straight printing of 'panerai italy' on the inside. The strap end is also curved well and finished perfectly.

But really honks of vanilla!

any suggestions?

i think it depends.
some panerai straps from what i've read do have a slight vanilla aroma.
but reps do have quite an overpowering aroma.

you're in the city, i'm sure you could find a dealer to comment on the authenticity of the strap.

I will drop the seller a 'nice' email requesting a 'refund or else' scenario

What are paypal like regarding chargebacks on counterfeit goods bought on the promise of being genuine?

No gen straps ever smelt like vanilla. This is like the trademark of the reps lol. It is a rep strap mate and the packaging could be rep as well.

The weird thing is that the watch, the box and all other accessories in one of the pics are gen...

Hmm, ship him back the item.. so he can resell it as genuine to some other poor sap!? Think not!

i think paypal are quite good actually in that respect.
especially if you used a credit card through it
may take some time but should be sorted in the end.

get yourself a nice leather strap made mate instead.

Tell they guy you'll come round and smash his backdoors in!

Yeah he deffo uses the gen picture as bait and sends out his vanilla manilla!

Thing is.. I've a PAM 186 arktos GMT and love the std strap on it. Hence my quest to get a gen one & gen deployant. got 4 other pams on the way so will order up some Toshi straps v v soon too.

I'm more annoyed with myself than anything... I spent ages looking in to this and still got suckered! What a dingbat!

and to top it off, my wrist now stinks like a fecking yellow magic tree!

You will be very very pleased. I just got the Saddle and Matte Black - the saddle strap is so so soft!

Question: What was this ebay guys feedback like, did you report him beyond Paypal?

I feel safer ordering here than i do ebay!

i buy reps cause it's all i can justify.
even then it's easy to get carried away.

Is there a decent rep deployent strap? The one I have is like cardboard. I swapped the deployent to the much nicer strap that came with my Regatta but I'd prefer the Panerai marked strap over the "OP: emblem one I have it on now.

The guys Ebay rep is 100%... but I think its because if he gets called out, as I did to him, he refunds right away.

Pretty good business model. Sell your replica items as genuine. Take the risk that people dont notice/lock on and carry on reaping the proceeds. Then refund people asap as and when they kick up a fuss.

That way the ebay feeback keeps a clean bill of health. No reporting/chargebacks from paypal/ebay.

trailboss99 - I would consider the rep that I bought in this thread as VERY good! Looks nigh on identical to my non vanilla smelling gen that I bought on paneristi (however this was for a tang buckle)

caaaan you believe it... I advertised a WTB on paneristi. Within minutes some guy called Schneider emails me offering a deplyoyment strap.

EXACTLY the same kind of fake strap, packet had exactly the same numbers/barcode etc on it. Panerai Italy on the back and not made in austria.

If you venture on to paneristi.. avoid anyone with the name schneider!
