Hi

Looking for a good watch to get waterproofed for holidays... Have several pams, decided against the apV3...

So do I get the 243 from h fac or a rolex submariner?

I think the rollie has more tells but can't help thinking it will be awesome on nato... Or should I get the 243 and get a canvas strap? We are spoilt with the quality on the pams vs rolex and its cyclops tells...

Decisions... Any input appreciated!

Either one will need to be taken to a watch smith to be waterproofed, or at the very least taken to a watch shop and pressure tested, so it really depends on what you like more. The vast majority of these watches can be waterproof, but many of them do not come that way from the factory due to shoddy QC practices.

That said, I would go with the 243. It's an awesome watch, and I never thought I would like a Pam Sub. It's a lot more fun for a holiday watch, too.

Cheers... Was wondering if the fake HE valve would effect the ability of the smith to proof and pressure test it...?

I know they can be waterproofed, though I don't know what exactly that involves. My understanding though is that this is built in the same manner as the genuine 243, so ostensibly the HE valve should be made to function as the gen. I'm not 100% on that, though, so don't quote me. :D

Lol it's a good thing you state you don't know too, because the rep H.E. certainly doesn't work...

It's like comparing a cat door when your house gets flash flooded to a safe door.

Reps aren't waterproof because they simply cost more money to make them so from the factory.

I just dont wear them into water period. They run the risk of leaking and getting scratched up.

Few gen owners wear gens to the water, regardless of what their wrist shots show.

David Beckham has a DSSD, and all the money in the world and he takes it off to go to the pool.

to the OP:

good choice on avoiding the apV3 that thing is a train wreck emptying people's wallets.

the submariner is very small and very slight in my opinion.
the 243 in comparison is a giant. the two aren't even in the same category to me.
you could maybe stack 3 submariners up to equal a 243 in wrist presence.

so it's an easy choice if you ask me, small thin watch or big thick watch.

if you're going with the 243, do NOT buy the h factory version. check out the comparison
between it and the 243 noobfactory version. night and day. completely different
construction, the noobfactory being the clear winner in basically every category.

same deal with the 111 N. H factory is not even close to noobfactory in gen likeness.

it's like the h factory builds from guesses and pictures and noob buys real watches
and builds from them.

Rolex has a screw down crown, Panerai has a locking crown guard.
the screw down crown is better for water tightness.

in either case, as stated, the He valve needs to be sealed with epoxy it does NOT
function correctly. but to say that no reps have working He valves is not true. the
old titanium Breitling seawolf has a perfectly functioning one, just like gen. I own one.
and in any case, if you plan on going near water, the watch needs first to go to a
watchsmith for professional waterproofing and testing to 10 ATM. if it does not pass,
don't even think about going in the water with it.

Good points... But The noob 243s are elusive vs a hfac which is available and I'm an inpatient chappy... Love my 111N noob but its not a holiday one as its just too good for the office...

Maybe a rollie is the answer with the screw down afterall....
