General Consensus of Tariffs on China

Do these tariffs extend to our TDs? Is everything coming in from China being inspected for tariffs? Talk of increasing tariffs today. I can't imagine watches sent will get by any tariffs and scrutiny as the US penalizes China for trademark infringement and general reverse engineering of our products. How do watches get by under the new rules??

Think about it..... these are replica watches not going through normal channels. No tariffs, no way

The tariffs mainly affect raw steel for fabrication and construction components. Nothing in the trade maneuvers of the US vis-a-vis China will have an impact on the rep trade. And as noted by Nanook65, reps do not go through inspections (ideally) and are thus not subject to any import duty which could affect a tariffed steel product.

In other words — don’t worry about it haha.

The trade war brewing is mostly smoke and mirrors to get better terms from our trade partners.

I think they lie about the contents of the parcels.

Lying is bad, don't do it.

Don't think it would but... theroretically, IF it was applied... it would amount to a couple cents for 150g of steel.

I think if the US does impose tariffs on all (imported) Chinese goods, we might have to be responsible to pay the tariffs ourselves. The carrier (post office) may collect it on behalf when you pickup your package.

As of now tariffs are linked to certain HS codes. Current regulations show that 1 x parcel with a commercial value below $800 bucks is exempt from these new duties.

If all imports from China was due to fall under new tariffs rules it would almost be impossible to collect these new duties. The post office dont have the recourses -or the infrastructure and it would cost more than they collect on duties because shippers would just lie as Trip stated. Lie about commodity and price as a workaround. How do you collect duties on an item that costs $5 shipped?

Tariffs on all Chinese goods would also bankrupt Walmart lol, which I don't think they will let happen haha

Very good point. I agree; the US Postal Service won't have the resources. Let's see how this trade war affects us as rep collectors.

Indeed plus online shopping ( DH gate, eBay etc ) would be the winners by omitting and reducing the cost on the custom clearance. This would force a shift in consumer trends and Walmart would probably follow suit close down shops stateside and ship everything from a warehouse in China.
