While researching how to change the glass on a rep Moonie. I found a Gen Speedmaster for sale at the local porn shop.
Not a moonie but still very nice.

Opinions on this model of Gen? Asking $1100usd yes or no?

... at the local porn shop

Your porn shop must be awesome! Mine only has dildos and movies!

Anyway, I like the auto version of the Speedmaster like the one you have shown. Some of them come in a reduced size though, so be sure you know what you are getting.

They might not be Moonies, but they are still cool in my book.

Technically, the Speedmaster Reduced doesn't count as a Moon Watch (as 5? notes), but it's a nice watch, nonetheless. What I don't like about the early version is the cluttered dial, due to all the minute numerals. I'm also not fond of the bracelet design, which is much cheaper looking than those on contemporary Speedmaster Professionals.

$1100 is right in the middle of the Reduced's price range. I've seen many sell for far less than $1000 on eBay. ($505 on July 14, which is the lowest I've seen.) I suggest you try a Professional and decide if you would prefer to save an additional $400-800 for a decent second-hand Pro.

Always been a big fan of the Speedmaster. I did consider buying a 'reduced' model a few years back, but when I compared it to the Speedmaster Pro in an AD it just didn't do it for me. I'd be inclined to save up a bit more and go for the real thing...!

Incidentally dmacnz - I've recently put a plexiglass in my Moonwatch rep - makes a huge difference, gives it a much more vintage feel and is an easy mod.

Thanks, The Gen is still on my mind, but i did order some plexi replacement for the Rep. I Think ill grab the rep in the mean time untill i find a speedmaster pro for a nice price. Lucky for me I live in Macau which has a HUGE used watch scene.

Tried on a handful of moonie Gens today. How much should a Moonie sell for used? with the clear back?!

Thanks

Hmm. Depending on age and condition of the Professional, I'd say USD 2000 +/- 500, then add USD 300-500 for the clear caseback "sapphire sandwich".
