gen PVD PAM crown question.

I was wondering if you guys could help me out and let me know if the gen PVD crown that is for sale on ebay would work on my manual wind 6497?

I have been thinking about picking one of those up and am curious if it would fit.

The only thing is I am not sure which of those crowns the guy in Turkey sells that works for the manual wind. LOS was talking about it at lunch yesterday but I cannot remember for the life of me.

Those PVD crowns he sells are for automatics, not manual winds like 6497.
The crown for auto mov't won't fit without stem adapter. Also with those older style Panarai crowns with 2 o-ring seals on the neck, you need to mod the standard rep crown tube to fit.

The same seller has Ti crowns which will fit the handwind stem. You can get one of these PVD'd, however the handwind crowns have a thicker shaft than the autos which means that modifying the tube will be more difficult. Also the rep autos had sprung crowns so the tubes on the rep 027, 029 etc are already closer to the width of the gen crown.

Using an adapter with an auto crown won't work with the 6497 because the movement is too big in the 44mm case to allow for the length of the adapter outside the keyless works.

PAMman thanks for the response but I want to make sure before I order another watch. So I'm guessing trying to source a palp crown would be a much much easier thing to do instead.

LOS has had a WTB ad up for months now, ask him how easy finding a Palp crown is...

Don't think I've ever seen anyone say that a palp crown is easy to find. Threre were a couple that sold at RWG last week. I guess if you responded to the ads within in the first minute of them being listed than they were easy to find.

Or I mean yes it'll probably take me just as long to have the watch modded by ziggy as it probably is to find a gen crown to fit.

Basically in short I'll probably never get anything done

I guess I'll have to leave my 04B project alone with the Angus crown.

Hit up vaccum and see what he has along the lines of "thicker" crowns. There are some rep crowns out there that are pretty close the correct thickness. The PVD process will mask some of the flaws of the rep crowns. One of DSN's crowns is always an option as well. They are actually quite close, except for how aggressive the bevel cut is at the edges. I wish he'd get that fixed.
