Hi Everyone,

I was at an AD recently and found an 2015 PAM111. I took a REAL close look at it and...it doesn't look like my noob v3 at all. Most noticeably:

1) the dial has a brown tone to it instead of a black like the noob.

2) the CG looks a lot "thicker" and a bit "taller" and bolder.

These two attributes gave the 111 a more vintage and BOLD look compared to what's on my wrist. The watch had a different presence.

What's going on?

Is the noob v3 inaccurate? Dial color? Or was there a change in the design of the 111 over the years?

Experts opinion please!!!

Looks aren't everything. :) It would not be a definitive comparison unless you had the two watches side by side under the same lighting conditions (ADs typically have different lighting than the outdoors). Or at least some pictures of the watch in the AD (but like I said, without a side by side comparo, it would be difficult to say for certain).

There have been changes to the PAM111 over the years, most notably the change to the thicker CG and the display caseback in the E-G series, the switch to the Cote de Geneves decoration instead of the PANERAI PANERAI grafitti text, the use of the sandwich dial, the switch from polished to brushed CG in the H series, and the change from modern to Pre-V hands from the M-series (transitional) to the N-series. No changes have been documented in the R-series (2015).

Mysterio, thanks for the explanation. It's obvious to possess a wealth of knowledge on PAMs that we are benefitTing from.

I've never handled a gen 111 myself til recently so I don't know if the differences are done in 2015. But when I had the gen in my hand I did have my noob v3 111 on my wrist, so it is "side by side" per se, 10cm away between the two watches. The staff was new to the business and he didn't realize that I was looking at the two same watch. Staff actually asked me to take a picture of it, but I didn't do so.

The difference was very obvious. The dial was most definitely browner as opposed to black, and the CG was a lot bolder. The contrast was big enough that I thought it was a whole other model that I had no idea existed. I was actually dumb enough to ask him the model number, and when he checked the tag and told me it was 111 I was in shock.

+1 forgot to mention, the lug shape on the gen 111 looks skinnier and sharper in shape as well. Anyone knows or suspects what is going on please comment because I'm quite curious as to how REALLY accurate is noob v3.

I think our fellow member yodog has a gen 111 (M serial if I remember correctly). Maybe he can chime in and tell us a few things about his gen.

Its still a black dial, but under bright sublight up close you can see the brownish speckle. Its not uniform black like the reps.

Thanks Yodog, drooling all over the photo, really nice watch.

Maybe it is the lighting but I swear at least under the AD lighting the rep and gen dial looked like two different color, brown vs black. Not sure if your gen also has a "fatter" crown guard?

Well yodog's gen is the M series, the PAM 111 in question is a 2015, hence an R series.

Maybe it wasnt a 111?

I thought of the possibility as well. but with that dial and display caseback and the 6497 mvt I can't think of another model. I'll visit the AD again to make sure, just don't know when that'll happen.

lol no probs PreA, although I probably won't mistaken a 47mm 1950 case vs 44mm luminor, not mentioning the bubble glass, gold hands and engraved bridge. Man I would've shit the pants if there was a gen 127 at a Canadian AD.

The only common thing on both is that they're both Panerai.
