Gen Movement and Rep Case

Is it possible to install a gen Rolex 3185/3186 movement in a rep 1675 or 16700 (series) case without changes with the movement holder? I know that I need other hands, other stem and the dial feet have to be modified. Background of my question: I´m intending to buy a gen Rolex 16710 or 116710 within the next month. I like the 116710 for the scratchfree ceramic bezel and the better clasp but I´m not so fond of the bigger case. I like the 16710 for the smaller case and the possibility to change bezel between black to black/red or blue/red but I don´t like the cheap made clasp. Of course I could change the cheap clasp for the better one but the watch would never look authentic with this change. With all movements used in reps the GMT hand is used for changing timezone and is turning when changing the time. I want to have a fixed GMT or hometime and a flexible hour hand as Rolex and Omega solved this problem.

And so most important to me is: Fit the gen Rolex movement with a rep case without any changes?

PS: Unfortunately I have only the money for one gen and not for both

Hi there -- Interesting question, but I'm not sure what the end result you're looking for is: one old school rep case with a gen movement, and a gen case to sell? Two watches, one with a gen movement, one rep? Describe what you're looking to end up with and I might have some ideas for you, having just done a lot of research for a 1675 build. As for whether a gen movement will fit in a rep case, it depends on the rep. Phong can adjust his specs, so you could definitely get him to do a 1675 case that would fit a newer movement, but I'm pretty sure there's a better way to go about this that doesn't involve hacking up a gen...

Buying gen as a donor to build a franken rep when you had a perfectly good gen doesn't make logical nor financial sense.

Build a franken rep with all the features you desire and install a gen movement especially since the features you want to cobble together aren't "correct" to one model but are authentic and correct to each individual model. It would be significantly cheaper than starting off with perfectly good gen and turning it into a donor.

or

Buy the 16710 and mount a gen clasp from a 116710 and that takes care of 66% of your wants (clasp and movement).
It may not look "correct" but it would be authentic and custom and then you could change gen bezels at your leisure, although not ceramic it's all gen.

Best of Luck

I would not trust a Rep case water tightness to keep my movement dry.
Sounds like throwing good money at bad..
