Stumbled upon an interesting topic on gen forum lately.

It seems that after Panerai Movement Scandal where they put totally basic non decorated 6497 movements in their limited edition 318 New York Luminors a few years ago:

Effectively making gen watches come with shittier movements than reps :)

And after recent Perezcope „In-House Movement Scandal” where it rurned out that Panerai did not inform anyone that their In-House is actually a modified ETA hidden under obscured see-through caseback.

Now it looks like our rep DLC/PVD PAMs are better at holding their coating together, just look at what happens to gen 360s:

Way over normal use patina. Looks like surface was not prepared properly for coating and it just slowly dissapears.

Crazy!

Yes, this is one of the reasons why they used the DLC further.
You seem to have missed quite a bit in your hobby regarding panerai, and If you want to add to the panerai fails collection, you can see how the compasite delaminates and how the BMG cracks.
I just don't see anything particularly surprising in this.
Gen panerai have always had a lot of complexities and production problems, and yes, this is one of the reasons why rep pams are so urgent.

Panerai have always experimented, and these experiments have not always been successful.
Either way, the PAM360 was sold as a special edition and it was expected that most of them would settle in huge collections, or immediately go to the secondary market. There are not many PAM360 GENs that could be used in practice like a daily watch.
This is not an excuse for quality, but part of their fate, and an explanation why not all 360s, and in general PVD models, are in this state.

BTW, it is worth clarifying what panerai offers under the guarantee for this case. I would suggest that they solve these kinds of issues from their side.

I believe 360 was already DLC’d? And I guess it is just poor craftsmanship as I have yet to see such badly worn older PVD case, no matter if we talk 195 or pre-v or pre-a.

And yes, I must have missed the other issues you mentioned, will read more about that over this holiday season!

I see no problem here, it can be buffed out easily.

Oh wait.....

Just food for thought but I don't think Rolex expected dials to turn brown under certain circumstances nor tritium to become all shades of yellow either...
I for one would like to buy the worn out case if the service center swaps it out for a brand new one ;)

You made me doubt. I checked, there are different opinions on this, but the main thing is that all modern PAMs have DLCs. Of course, for an accurate answer, you need to read the confirmation of the brand representative, because in any case, outwardly it is not easy to understand this, because most black PAMs differ in shade and reaction to light.

Nevertheless, I agree that this kind of coating blemish, like on 360, does not occur on other models, and is clearly a consequence of a violation of technology.

However, this was not my message in the first place.
To begin with, for me a watch with PVD (using any technology) is a rather fragile product, and I would have worn out on one scale or another, in any case, and either would not pay attention to it, or try to use it not so actively.
Secondly, the Panerai have never been the epitome of the quality or uniqueness of movements. This story is more about passion and bigotry. Therefore, neither the violation of the technology, nor the cheap movements, nor the mediocre finish, it seems to me, is not that surprising, and this is not even expected from this brand.

I think of it rather as an interesting artifact.
