Many months of sourcing parts has resulted in my completed 126610 frankengen. Using VSF 126610 as a base, I added a genuine bezel and insert and genuine dial to start with. When a new, unused gen 3230 movement came up for sale I grabbed it and converted it to a gen 3235 using all genuine parts. The conversion was pretty straightforward and required swapping a few parts and adding the calendar system. The only hiccups were a couple of incorrect acquired parts that needed to be exchanged for the correct ones, and the watch was reassembled, regulated, and successfully pressure tested to 10 bar/330 ft. I might install a gen crystal and hands at some point...or maybe never. The crown is also gen and the SELs were modded to a more genlike recess.
I have included some comparison photos of the gen vs VSF dial and bezel. As you can see, there's very little difference between them without using very high magnification. The only benefit of a gen dial and bezel is bragging rights. There's no noticeable improvement except the warm, fuzzy feeling you get knowing they are there.
Why do this? For the sport and for the challenge. Why go fishing or hunting when you can buy meat and fish at the grocer? Why climb a mountain? For the sport and the satisfaction of accomplishing a goal.
Thanks for looking!
