What is the difference between a "fully modded" (canon pin fix+superlumed+sapphire) VS. "ultimate"?

thanks

The honest answer there is -- it depends on the watch in question.

Keep in mind that things like "fully modded" and "ultimate" are subjective ratings.

To me:

Ulimate- means out of the box aand ready to go.

Modded- means mods were done to get it into current condition.

Theory aside, you'll find that most of the time "fully modded" = "ultimate", in real life, at the particular point in time.
Being "ultimate" replica is only ultimate for a short-to-medium timeframe in rep fora, before a new and better quality part(s) and services are available to rep community members and modders.

Just as an example, an Ultimate 201/A with standard old-school rep case with sappire without A/R, palp crown, V CG, FGD dial, DSN hands etc...is only ultimate until someone comes up with closer to 1:1 part(s) you could update the watch with, like the pre-V case LoS managed to source with screws for double-screws on both lugs etc.

And , as Hooligan said, it's a subjective rating, and it usualy is in the eye of the beholder.

Babola,
I think you described a full modded 201/A as you added a bunch of aftermarket parts.

When I think of Ultimate, I think of Ultimate Planet Ocean
or Ultimate Sea Dweller, meaning they are about ready to go after purchase.
Now if you add pearls, hands, etc, they are no longer Ultimate but modded

Yeah, being in the Panerai forum, I kinda assumed that, L.

I meant *which* Panerai in particular.

Exactly.

I for one don't fall for a rep that was named Ultimate by rep makers and dealers, as hardly any can be called that, and requires at least a mod or two of sort to make it "ultimate".

As I stated above, theory aside, fully moded = ultimate, but you can call it any name, it really comes down to your subjectiveness as an owner.
