From Pam to Rolex and back to Pam

I for one have been into reps for an age, had contacts, out with forums, but with access to TD’s and factories.
Anyway , I moved away from Panerai to the Rolex route, built a few frankens that I am proud of , now feeling the Rolex road has ended, gone as far as I want (can go )……..Moving back to the Pam world……

NOOB no longer ,,,,,,HWF you have the chance to improve your quality ,Movement finishes, springy CG’s etc.
Here is hoping.

Yep, as a youngster in the hobby I must say that holding an H-fac or an older Noob Pam in hands gives a "good ol'days" feeling. Nothing compares to my Hfac 183 or Noob 297 O-series in terms of presence and built quality. VSF was good too, but somehow missed quite a few models on stupid details, maybe they wanted too much too fast.

Seeing new factories like HWF coming up to fill the gap brings hope and excitement, but also bitterness and a step back feeling.

All we can do is wait and see my brothas, wait and see...

I've never liked the latest fad watches, so in my opinion, there are great older watches from Panerai and Rolex and a few others. I think Panerai made the mistake to pump out special editions like there's no tomorrow, while at the same time decrease quality in order to lower the price, and Rolex watches have become unobtainable due to supply and demand issues. I don't need 20 or 30 watches in my watch box. I prefer to have a few, and everyone of those few has to be special to me. Quality over brand loyalty.

Of course, what the TD market offers in rep panerai is clearly not on par with the golden age of rep pams, but there is m2m where you can find a lot of interesting things that VSF has produced during your absence .

As for the nature of the current state of the market, this is a direct risk of monopoly. But even so, it is better this way than nothing at all. Moreover, I remember not so long ago a period when everyone was frantically looking for classics, while no TD could supply a single 44mm bettarini model.

Now the polarity has swung in the other direction, but it brings some variety, and, as I already mentioned, you can smooth it out with a second-hand watch.
