Hey all,

3rd straight day reading the forum. Have been reading about franken-rep here and there.

This franken, who or what is that? Is it a dealer or modder, does he have a website?
I tried the search but no real info found.

thx Be-one

A Franken is a rep that uses some genuine parts, as in 'Frankenstein' or 'frankenwatch'.

Usually a rep with a genuine dial, crown, hands or bracelet etc...

A Franken will be more accurate and more expensive than a standard rep. You'd either build it up yourself or buy on the second hand market. There are a few guys like smidsy or concepta that can build to order for you.

cheers for the plug; should add I only do breitling really ;) Concepta IWC, Fakey rolex(?).....

I wouldn't recommend anyone without watchmaking experience to attempt it - you'll bugger the dial and at works the movement too....

Concepta and myself due to our contacts are probably some of the few who can make a 'gen' watch out of parts..... as I said breitling with me IWC for him :)

Al Franken is a US Senator. He previously wrote for Saturday Night Live and frequently wore a rep Rolex Submariner on set. Hence, the origin of the word "Franken" here.

Finally someone who knows what they're talking about. ;)

Once upon a time (i.e. a few years ago), a franken meant any watch that was put together out of genuine parts--ALL genuine parts. This standard has been relaxed considerably, to the point where a Noobmariner with a Rolex crown is sometimes called a franken. Some say that you need at least a gen dial or movement before you can say you have a 'true franken'. But until the Franken Regulatory Commission of Geneva rules one way or another, it's a tedious argument over semantics. All I care about is honesty over the parts you've got.

And maybe some guys could take it easy with calling their watches "super franken", "hyper franken", and "double secret franken"!
