Franken Omega PlanPro build "finally" complete

I stumbled across an article a few years back where guys were taking their Omega SMP's and installing PO bezels on them: Seamaster Professional combined with Planet Ocean, hence the name of PlanPro
https://www.flickr.com/photos/shanelin/4815007232/

Well, the Seamasters are awesome watches but I prefer the slightly bulkier, thicker 2500 series
Planet Ocean.
That and the fact that the Planet Ocean bezel is a tad thicker than the SMP , having the crystal sitting too low when installing the PO bezel to the SMP.
So I decided to do things backwards: I wanted a Planet Ocean with the Cal.1120 SMP dial and hands.

Not wanting to foot the cost of 2 gens to merge them into one, I opted to base the build on the LMPO.
And I found that the v3 LMPO ( with it's inconsistent gen like dial font amd lume application ) was the best place to start.

I regret not having taken the time to document the build from start to finish but I'll explain what's involved and what's needed: I just thought I'd share as I "finally" received the oem bezels and crystals to finish them right.
I'm "extremely" pleased with the overall improvement in beauty the gen bezels and crystals give it. :biggrin-new::biggrin-new:
They've had slightly pearl modded V5 bezels and prof 2xAR's on them for awhile now.
( "They" meaning I did a pair of them, one with the Black wavy and one with the Blue.

Started out with a v3 LMPO with incorrect dial (no Zr02 font) so I wouldn't feel bad dismantling a super rep and it could be found a bit cheaper than the sought after V1's and now I believe the V4's

The beauty of using the LMPO as a base is:
- the gen tube, crown and hev are much more gen-like so there's no real rush in landing the gen parts BUT once acquired the gen tube, crown and complete he valve fits the V3 case without mods.
(not the same with the V5 PO which requires epoxy to the tube and drilling out the case for the HE valve.)

So here we have a LMPO V3 housing a Swiss SW200, H3 installed and freshly serviced by Mr. Tickleshoes.
It has the following oem Omega parts installed and I'll include part #'s and cost breakdown in case some of you may want to put one of these together for your own proud collection.

NOTE: these particular builds run right up there neck and neck with gen prices but are still ( in my humble opinion) a better overall value than starting with gen watches

Swatch Group put a halt to all 3rd party Omega parts distributing from vendors like Ofrei and cousins.uk but parts can still be had...mind you they're not cheap but they are still out there.
( I'll offer to help by sourcing them as due to pricing I don't really expect my inbox to blow up. )

Thanks for the breakdown. Not too bad.
It's really not, considering.
Granted it exceeds the norm Franken build cut off: which for me is typically around 35-40%, depending.
And of course, I haven't "re-invented the wheel" here.
It's been done countless times......
This one I found interesting:

Great job and great piece!! I love how you went with the PO case since you prefer a beefier case.

I’m the opposite...my anatomy prefers the SMP case! I’m looking to build a PlanPro.

May I ask where you sourced your parts? Especially where did you get the 2230.50 dial for $285? That’s a steal.

I’d argue what you did is very unique and hasn’t been done before. Mainly cuz you used the PO case when everyone else used an SMP case.

The first one you linked is a 2264 quartz with simply a PO bezel and crystal. Unfortunately the quartz movement can not accommodate the 2230.50 non-ac dial or the PO second hand. Both of those are key mods for this build in my opinion. Just swapping PO bezel on doesn’t do it for me.

Thanks @Mr. Pap .... coming from you that's saying a lot.
And @cwfmon , thank you sir. I appreciate the kind words.

I agree..it's the wavy and swords paired with the PO bezels that really make it "pop".
But the PO bezel, as well as the thickness of the SMP dial ( 2.6mm ) leaves the crystal slightly recessed when using the SMP as the base: a look I simply can't live with.

Yes indeed, I really did get a helluva deal on the 2230.50 dial....it seems dial prices have went way up, they've rose to up over 400.00 ea., as has most other new Omega dials .
( though I can likely offer some assistance acquiring the parts needed to do one of these: just shoot me a PM if needed.)

I'm currently having my "Omega guy" look into the possibility of pulling the metal ringed markers from a 2230.50 dial and installing them on a blue 2255.80 dial.
It's not certain whether or not the 2230.50 markers will completely cover the lume applied on the 2255.80 ( the applied lume "may" be slightly larger than the outer dimensions of the 2230.50 markers. )
But if not, the Blue PlanPro will be getting that custom modification: I personally like the metal ringed markers more.
