This sunny sunday, I have finished an affordable nice bichromatic 5513 made with Raffles, Alix and Ebay parts that will stand out from the bling of modern watches at the beach and display perfect taste for that black tie casino evening.
I have done some work on an Ebay case which unfortunately has an unidirectional clicking bezel: drilling lugs to 1.3mm, chamfering them, reducing the crown guards inside and outside and aging the whole case to give it a "toolwatch" worn look.
I have worked on the bezel to obtain a satin/matte aspect with just the start of a fade to charcoal so as not to spoil that bichromatic general look. It makes the black/white Raffles dial stand out in a striking way. I left the dial and hands untouched for the same purpose. It'd be ideal for a piano or Gibson Lucille / ebony Les Paul player.
I installed a nice low dome acrylic crystal from an Alix seller, and a crown and tube from Raffles.
The movement is a brand new NH35a, prices have increased, I guess it's thank you Mr Trump.
The bracelet is an oyster found on Ebay, with pins and not screws, it preserves the look and reduces the price.
Price breakdown:
* Case: from Ebay, unidirectional clicking bezel. Aged and reworked
= 42€
* Crystal: from Alix, acrylic, low dome
= 6€
* Bezel insert: from Ebay:
= 10€
* Crown and crown tube: from Raffles
= 15€
* Dial: Raffles.
= 35€
* Movement: NH35a from an Alix store
= 44€
* Hands: from an Alix store
= 10€
* Vintage oyster Bracelet: from Ebay (it has pins and not screws, If you don't want it, you can subtract 25€ from the price)
= 25€
Total for parts = 187€
Work done + miscellaneous supplies like drill bits and sanding bits:
Chamfering and drilling lugs, reducing and reshaping crown guards, aging case. Fading and setting bezel, setting crystal, tube and crown. Assembly.
= 60€
Total costs= 247€
I would like 245€ for this watch. If you don't want the bracelet, you can subtract 40€ from the price.
Tracked postage would be 5.5€ (France) and 13.5€ (rest of the world). I fill the extra EU customs form with "service to used watch" = 1$, but customs risk is on the buyer.
