I have been reading a few posts on here that are wanting leather straps for fixed lugs. I find this to be sort of a DOH! type question because I don't think people are thinking when they ask this.

The only leather strap one could purchase and put on themselves for a fixed lug watch would be one that had rivets or snaps. It would have to come apart in order to put it around the lug. If I am wrong please let me know.

For those of you who want these really nice laced straps (with no rivets, snaps, etc), I believe the only way to get one of those would be to send your watch out and have the strap maker attach the strap and lace it into place. You would have to cut the strap off to replace/change it, because the lugs are actually fixed (DOH!). Again if I am wrong please let me know. With the increase popularity of vintage models and thier subsequent fixed lugs, this may be a service that some of the strap makers will want to consider. I know I have ;)

Yup. This is all sort of true.

Four methods:

(1): Rivets (as used in the old German pilots watches)

(2): Directly sewn on (as original Panerai's)

(3) NATO straps (pass thru lugs)

(4): Continuous straps passed thru both lugs and laying against the watch back (like a NATO strap).

The thickness of the straps we like tend to lead us to either (1) or (2) above. (2) above is the most authentic.

One method to meet this need would be to provide straps with the sewing holes pre-drilled and supplied with the correct thread. Doing a thread that way is within the capabilitues of anyone. I'd buy 6 straps tomorrow if I could find them this way.
