Great news. The Seadweller arrived, two days earlier than scheduled, and it looks beautiful.
Of greatest importance to this thread, I have only thanks and praise to offer the PureTime team. They answered every one of my questions in a timely manner and expedited the process at every stage to the greatest extent humanly possible. They were also very meticulous in the protective wrapping they used to ensure that the watch wouldn’t be damaged in shipment. I couldn’t imagine having a better partner to help me navigate the uncharted waters of my very first replica purchase.
As for the watch itself, I could hardly be happier. VSF’s reputation for attention to detail on this model is well established. The 43mm size suits me perfectly and it wears comfortably. The on-the-fly micro-adjustable clasp is fantastic. Regardless of the ambient temperature or your recent level of physical activity, a perfect fit is always only seconds away.
I can also confirm that PureTime was 100% correct regarding the bracelet size. My 7.5” wrist was easily accommodated by the stock bracelet. In fact, it was necessary for me to remove a full link.
The watch winds smoothly and the crown’s various setting positions are all easily distinguished.
The closest gen I own for comparison purposes is a 40 year old Submariner 16800 that I’ve had and worn extensively since it was new. Between these two, the biggest tactile differences I note are both bezel related. The first relates to the bezel turning action. The SD bezel is buttery smooth with well defined clicks and it aligns perfectly at the 12o’clock position. Compared to my Sub, though, the amount of force required to turn the bezel is relatively lighter - maybe just ever so slightly too light for my personal preference.
I also note that the knurling around the perimeter of the bezel has been machined so that the edges of the cut outs are much sharper and crisper than on my Sub. There’s not really a better or worse with this one, just a difference. And I must stress again that these differences may very well be 100% identical to a current production gen Seadweller.
All in all, this first purchase has been a very positive experience thus far. I’m starting to see how this could be an addicting hobby.
