Hi everyone, I'm quite new to this website, and I've really been itching for a fairly nice Tag rep for a first watch from RWI's TD's.

First and foremost, I apologize for what might be a long-winded post, but I would just like to get as much information as I can before I shell out the cash for my first rep.

I've been reading lots and lots of threads in the Tag section (kept me up all night, quite addicting learning all the different information), and I've really had my eye on a Calibre 16 rep.

I've been viewing numerous different TD's reps, and I've been seeing that most of the Calibre 16's movements use the 21j movement. I've read from numerous threads that lots of people have had this movement fail on them within the span of a few months, which is why I'm weary to purchasing one with the 21j movement.

I also saw the thread about the Tag Quartz watches, and how much more reliable/durable they are. However, I have not seen any Calibre 16 reps w/ chronograph that has a Quartz movement (because, IIRC, these Calibre 16 watches should have automatic movements in order to be viewed correctly? Please correct me if I am mistaken). One thread mentioned that the Formula 1 would be a good first rep since it is Quartz, but that Calibre 16's looks just really won me over.

What really confused me is that while viewing one of the TD's websites, one of the dealers were offering a Carrera that, and I quote, "uses high grade 7750 movement (or swiss movement)" for around the same price as a Calibre that uses a 21j or Quartz movement. Every 7750 movement watch that I've seen was usually $300+, and this one was about 1/3 of that price.

So, I guess to summarize all this is, should I:

1. Buy a Tag with a 21j and hope for the best
2. Buy a Tag that I really don't like the design of, but will be reliable with a Quartz movement, or
3. Buy a Tag with what seems to be a 7750 movement with a price that seems a bit too good to be true.

Thanks in advance for your help everyone, and I'm looking forward to buying my first rep very soon.

If you're not sure about a particular watch, you should send them a message asking them to clarify. Chances are it's just a pricing mistake. It happens.

If you had links to the model(s) in question, we might be able to help more.

Well, this is the Calibre that I had been looking at...was just trying to keep the dealer anonymous, not sure if revealing them is looked down on or anything like that.

Sapphire AR with a 7750 movement for the price just kind of had me a little hesitant.

Read closer...

This watch using high grade 7750 movement (or swiss movement) watch casing !

MOVEMENT?Japan OS Working Chronograph

This model doesn't include the 7750 movement - it's saying that the casing is the same higher quality version that the 7750 version uses. But the movement is quartz.

Hello,

The Real Tag Heuer Calibre 16 is a Valjoux 7750 :
so if you wish an accurate Rep for a calibre 16, buy it with an Asian 7750 Movement : with a 21J all the fonctions will not work (and the transparent caseback shows a movement that absolutely doesn't look like a 7750) and with a quartz version the subdials will not at the right place (and the second hand will not sweep like an automatic movement)

And Swiss/asian movement inside the Rep ? : If you buy a Asian7750 you are sure to get an asian7750 ;-)

And where buying your Cal 16 with A7750 ? -> contact one of the Trusted Dealer ("TD") of our forum, you will not have surprises : Intime, puretime, Trevorwatches, etc ...

All true, but be aware that the replica version of the 7750 is much more prone to breakdown than the real Valjoux. Quartz is much more reliable as far as replicas go, but has the issues mentioned above.

I'm not promoting one over the other to you. I mainly stick to the 7750 for their authenticity and generally higher quality materials. But for every one that works fine I also have another that quickly became nothing more than a paperweight not long after arrival.

Just be aware that there are risks and trade offs either way. Have a look in the Movements sections. It won't be too hard to educate yourself on the 7750 issues.
