I finally took the dive and ordered my first PAM from Davidsen. After much research I came to the conclusion DSN was the way to go. The transaction was smooth although I had to wait 2 weeks before a watch was ready. I paid via Western Union and the watch was in my hands 4 days later! I immediately ordered a strap from TC and SC. I wanted your opinion on what you think is wrong with this watch. After much research it seems my crown guard is not correct. Let me know if you could help!

That crown guard looks pretty good to me. The crown might be sitting a tad too far away from the case, but the crown guard looks A-OK.

Anyone else care to offer their opinion?

What looks different about it, though? Are you talking about the fact that yours is brushed and Joe's is polished? The overall shape/size appears to be very much the same. Granted the CG lever pin looks a litt fatter and a little more flush/flat with the surface of the CG, but that is something that vac or flav can take care of for you.

The polished/brushed difference is correct for your respective models of the 111...

Gotcha, the crown is what you're talking about.

How close the crown sits to the side of the case varies on genuine Panerai, too. "Right" and "wrong" are very hard to determine when it comes to the spacing of the crown away from the case.

Hi, it's a nice watch first of all, and yes, maybe the CG is a bit off to the right of the case, but still looks nice imop...
I had a look at many 111H's as well, and I own a 111H TI.
On your pics it looks like the numbers a a bit on the large site, and the stripes around the seconds dial are a bit too small(12,3,6 and 9 0'clock).
And of course the " L swis made L" close to the 6, but that have almost all 111H reps I have seen.
I hope you found it usefull....:)

Regards

Hi,

The CG looks pretty good for a rep CG. I wouldn't worry too much about it.

What I point out in DSN's sandwich dial watches (except for 112 and 176) are the following -

Yours
panerai111h-016.jpg

Gen
dsc01422qy7.jpg

The placement (DSN's is too spread out) and proportion (DSN's are definitely bigger) of the numbers are off a little. Also, look at the "2" and "6", the shapes are different too, as well as the size of "L SWISS MADE L". It's much smaller on the gen, which creates more spacing between the "6" and "L SWISS MADE L". Vaccum also points out that the sandwich effect on DSN's 111 is too shallow compared to gen. There are other flaws on DSN's 111H dial, but they're also present on standard rep 111H dials as well. Very very minor things like these... I was at first very anal about these things, but I have become much more forgiving, and learned to judge the watch more on its overall quality & feel (DSN's is top notch in that respect, I hear).

EDIT: Sorry for the two really different size pictures... didn't know they'll show up like that when I was posting :) but I'm sure you can see what I am trying to say.

Knowing the flaws could be a good thing, but sometimes, it's better not to know ;) Since you asked for it, I am providing you some information (they're also all over RWI, RWG, and other forums if you search for them), but just know that you have an awesome watch and enjoy it - that's the most important thing.

Thanks! great information.

OK..... I am experiencing my first problem with the watch.
I can't pull out the crown to change the time. I have to unscrew the CG to change the time. Anybody know a quick fix?

JOE: Nice comparison shots of the rep and the gen. Some people may get hung on the slight differences but for me it does just the opposite, it shows just how good some of these reps really are. Really enjoying my new 111.

lacivious: great looking watch...enjoy. :D
