First Breitling - Avenger GMT SS Maybe?

Dear fellow members

As a new member in the Breitling game I'm considering my first Breitling (Im a AP guy). The purpose is to try the brand and see if it suits me before going gen. First impression is very important otherwise I will probably not give the brand a second chance :-/

I made some research but couldnt find any answers for my questions so I hope you can help me to research in the correct threads or maybe help me with the answers. I will appreciate if someone can help me with a gen vs rep comparison thread - just put the link

1) The first question is which version is going for? The black dial, black dial with arabic numbers or white dial? Couldnt find a review of it. I like the black dial as I dont see the white have the correct color - maybe its just me.

2) Next question is that the DW isnt 100 % correct. What to do? Change to gen DW or is there another solution - for example in the AP game well known mod is to change the DW from Mikey? I guess maybe that the gen will need some modifications before it will fit.

3) I will go for the bracelet and gen will always be better - thats the part of the game but what are the recommendations?

I got alot of questions and need to research some more I know, but I hope that someone can help to put in the correct direction for researching.

All I want is to get a good start with the brand before going further.

I have one with a Gen bracelet. It is a great Rep made by GF. Black is always more accurate than blue. I happen to have a blue dial because I like blue. The Rep is so good nobody other than our very knowledgable RWI members will ever know the watch is a Rep. I happen to have the stick markers. I like Arabic better.

The gen watch isnt that expensive, so is it worth to invest in the gen bracelet?

At the time I bought the Gen bracelet the watch only came with a rubber strap. In general, the GF bracelets are pretty good. I would order the watch with the SS bracelet and see what you think. The Gen bracelet is about $700 USD depending on who has it on sale. The edges of the Rep bracelet are a little sharper than the Gen. If you give the Rep bracelet an oil bath it is hard to tell.

This is probably one of the best out of the box reps ever made. This watch feels gen along with the bracelet. There are a few variations out there with date font and pearl. I was lucky and bought a black dial with the correct rounded pearl and date font. Not too sure how the brand new ones will come. Either way a great rep!

As far as I understood the watch came with a ETA movement but now is A2836. My question is that is the date and gmt setting as Gen? Position 1 counter/anticounter clockwise for setting the date/gmt?

and has anyone swapped the A2836 with the ETA?

We all know the date wheels are sunken. Nothing can be done without a mod. Consider the fact nobody but our members even know what a sunken date wheel is. There was a recent post within the last 4 weeks describing what causes the sunken date wheel. I bought a BP from Loco Louie before he lost control of his TD business that fixed the sunken date wheel.

Black is always the most accurate color. Sticks or numbers are a matter of choice. When I bought mine I did not have any choice. GF had just released the watch.

If GF and BP make the best Breitling Rep's you have a choice. But the Rep for 10% of a Gen and have it modded such as a Gen Bracelet and Gen dial or buy a Gen. You can spend time agonizing over a watch feature that is not going to change unless you buy the Gen part and have to modder add it.

I have a Breitling Super Avenger by H Factory and a Gen. I had a Gen dial of the same color added to the Rep. I cannot tell which watch is the Rep without looking at the serial number.

Never came with an ETA movement, they only came in A2836 with GMT module.

Yes, same as Gen setting for date/gmt

Yes I did on mine. However, you have to reuse the stock GMT module unless you happen to have a spare.

I know what sunken DW is and if I remember correct the cause was the movement. Sunken DW is a common problem on reps so Im not to worried about that. You may link to the thread so I han refresh my knowledge.

I like your Avenger and its crazy about some reps and even confuse the owners.
