hiya , quite new to Pams ( slippery slope tho lol ) ... so anyway, on getting my 111m of a fellow member i was in love, and the Pam bug quickly took hold ... but i had a bit of a problem wearing it due to my skinny wrists , you see the buckle sat right on my wrist bone :frusty:, i have ordered a custom stap from one of our TD , but thought in the meantime i would have a go myself so i could at least wear the watch without having to endur the discomfort of the buckle ... its a bit rough but it does the job and overall im quite pleased for a first try, even better- its made from my Dad's old work belt which he wore everyday for over 45years  which i think is a nice touch, anyway just thought i would share :)

Good point, he probably would.
The strap making thing gets easier with practice.
Hell, if trk can do it (and do it quite well) anyone can.

Excellent 1st attempt Jool's:thumbsup: I know I could never attempt to make a strap, wish I could, only problem there would be that my wife's Gen Lv handbag would become a donor:lol1:

lol:lolcina::lolcina: - you would be in BIG trouble :lol:
raided my mums house for old belts etc- there was also a bag of old leather up the loft too , which also belonged to my grandmother , all sorts of snake skins ( i think ) and leathers - some of it is pretty dry - but then again so would i be after 50 odd years up there lol, its quite thin too so not sure if it would be any good for making a strap , my dads belt seemed the easy option :)
thanks for the watch - i love it  :)

You are about to get drowned in PMs from the strap guys wanting those snake skins any minute :)

The idea is you use the exotic skin as the top layer of a two or three layer strap.

lol ... oh please no :-0 , ... i really like some of it and i would love to attempt an AP strap out of the snake ( or whatever it is - not 100% sure what they are TBH) .. dont think it would be easy tho
so .... you just glue it to some thicker leather then cut to shape ? .. may have a wee practice on my days off when i have some spare time .... a bit scared to waste any of the old leathers and skins tho TBH :lolcina:

1st strap? I don't believe you. :)

Great work, can't get better leather than dad's old work belt.

Have fun with the leather you found rather than let it sit, do it proud. You can use neatsfoot oil to nourish the leather if it is overly dry. If it needs to be cleaned, you can use saddle soap. Hope that helps. Welcome aboard. :)

Thanks, No , ( now dont laugh...) i just cut round an old strap and left extra for the ends that needed split, folded and glued ... no idea what the proper way of doing it is but if im going to do another i will try and find some information, there must be some out there ... wish my grandmother were still alive , im sure she could have tought me a few tricks :)
good luck .. and most of all have fun :)

your kidding? if not im flattered that you would think i have done it before, but i swear i havent ,... ( well i had to do the short part twice so i suppose thats a strap and a half..lol ... messed the first short side up and almost lost the tip of a finger  ) i should have taken a photo of the back of the strap as in all honesty its not all that neat, but i dont really mind..
thanks for the tips , yep your right its a shame to let it sit another 50 years but i really dont want to waste it either if you know what i mean :-0
i did enjoy doing it tho so i will try to make time to learn a bit more about it all :) think my fist attempt will always be my favourite tho as like you say my
Dad's old belt would be a hard one to beat :)

No freakin way that's your first strap attempt!!!! :-0
I couldn't BUY a strap kit all cut and bored and have it come out that well.

I think you should loot at a lot of straps in the straps section, take what you know now and learn from what you see, then take a stab at another. Because if this is your first attempt, you have some real promise.

I look forward to seeing the next one..... and the ones after that.
