Noob question - sorry. I tried searching for the answer but as I dont know the correct terminology that proved fruitless...

So, I have a fiddy 127 from watcheden with the manual wind movement and on the sceleton back there is a guage of some sort with a needle pointer (at top left with the crown on the left). Is this an energy guage? Mine doesn't seem to move - i presume that the gens do.

I'm just curious.

Hi,

That's how you regulate the watch,, to adjust it if it is running fast or slow.
It is not a power reserve needle.
:)

Good question.. :)

Yes, you've got it. Reps, gens, in fact all mechanical movements have a means of adjusting the regulation. By the way, the word is gauge. For some reason this is a word that gets spelled wrong all the time, even in professional publications.

Allow your watches several weeks to bed in before thinking about adjusting the regulation. A new movement requires a period of time to settle down.

Hey - thanks againfor that! I now know what a gauge is...

My rep seems to be keeping time nicely so i'll leave it well alone i think

Cheers again. RWI to the rescue.

One more Q: whats the swan dagger thing that I keep hear mentioned?

The swan neck/dagger regulator *IS* the thing you're talking about. The "swan neck" is the curved piece of metal that bends around the dagger shaped regulator needle.
